Good point, I'm not really thinking of doing it as to fair it is brisk enough, not as quick as the 300 atom but that's probably the torque speaking!
My Duratec is a 2.3l with 12:1 and yep lumpy cams, maybe not the best candidate for supercharging then.. Does go well though!

Lumpy cams can still be good with forced induction if you get the timing right.

Sort of. But most 4 pot engines of similar rev ranges will likely run fairly similar gearing. Not too mention you'll have a 1:1 ratio somewhere there, so it comes down to your final drive. But a more torque engine with even similar rather than exactly the same gearing will in all likelihood still produce more wheel torque for any given speed or gear.Fish said:

Sounds rather fantastic. From what I've read for other engines, a static CR of around 10:1 is quite usable for light boost supercharged setups. If you want to go for big power you'd want to be nearer to 8.5 to 9.1:1 and even lower if turbocharging. My Duratec is a 2.3l with 12:1 and yep lumpy cams, maybe not the best candidate for supercharging then.. I think I get it. Trade an expensive high revvy engine for one with more torque down low and a drop off in power higher up for a little better power control there. Makes it all the more useable. Makes me wonder how a modern small low pressure turbo would work.
If you get the cage above can you still get a full screen if you like?
I'm intrigued by a boosted caterham.

YEs - full screen and cage are compatible. Cage can also be retrofitted to a car that didn't originally have one.If you get the cage above can you still get a full screen if you like?

Why not a small little turbo with variable veins? You wouldn't even know it's there. I'm not thinking big horsepower just a little more torque. Regardless, I like what they are doing here with the centrifugal supercharger.
You can reduce but you can't eliminate lag and when you're dealing with something this light and precise you will notice it even more. The issue with turbo's is the off boost driving and adjustment on the throttle.
NA with TB's is the best. SC is similar response to NA with an inlet manifold but extra power. Turbo is the last option, you can make bigger power but the driving experience is all wrong for this type of car.

I *love* the Caterham cage. Really makes the car look awesome. Just my opinion.
Whats the driver doing with his right hand?Is he videoing his lap!

Guys its all been done before with the Caterham X330 concept http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUIHkLDpQXk
It was built around 2006/7 for the 50 year anniversary had rave reviews but I guess at that time lots of changes were happening with ownership the new investments in tooling etc http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/209248/caterham....
My understanding is that the X330 lives in Denmark and the guy who brought it had to spend a large sum on import duties but its one heck of a car and sounded amazing. So its good to see the team reviving the project
