Afternoon
5) Your car is not a daewoo, kia, or something horrifically beige.
I had a similar problem when looking for a car for my son. I appealed to PH and picked up a tidy Daweoo Lanos 1.4 for £700. Its been very reliable, the PH'er was a very nice bloke and my son is happy.5) Your car is not a daewoo, kia, or something horrifically beige.
You may not WANT a daewoo but this one is a 1.4 (cheap insurance) , black paintwork, Aircon, ABS and airbags and a fully galvanised body. So not a spot of rust on it anywhere, more than I can say for any of the other cars I looked at in the 1k - 1.5k bracket.

I would widen your search, personally. I never understand people who are not willing to look further away from home to get a better deal on a car, but are willing to buy one closer to home for more? doesn't many economical sense. You only have to drive to visit a car once or twice when purchasing, so why does it matter if it takes more than 30 minutes to get there?
You can waste a lot of money (on fuel) and time looking at cars a long way from where you live.If the cars in his local area have all been crap, why will ones further away be any better?
Waiting for the right thing to turn up locally is the way forward.

PISTONHEAD'ers within 25 miles of Bridgend. If you are selling your car within the price tag of 1-1.5K and it meets the following criteria i am interested in your car.
1) It does not have a used condom in it...
3) You are not from a swamp
1)Didn't think you'd find one of these judging by the amount of teen Mum's in Bridgend.1) It does not have a used condom in it...

3)Bridgend, South Wales right? Good luck with that!
OP, there is actually a Ford Focus for £995 between the Tesco garage and the big roundabout, saw it there this morning, may be worth a look if you haven't already?

Pretty much my thoughts. £1k is what you pay for an OK laptop these days, let alone a car. As long as it's not a death trap I think you're doing well, but you will surely need to be patient and sift through a lot of rubbish.
You can hope for a lot more than not being a deathtrap for a grand. some of the posts here are a little silly, obviously from people who have little to do with buying and selling cars..
You should be able to get something tidy and chepa to run on your budget no problem without resorting to the kia or daewoo alternative.
For something that ticks all the boxes you want you may have to bide your time, but something will come up.

They are out there, and your doing the right thing as at least you haven't bought the first thing you've seen,
I got my Audi A4 with 53,000 on the clock for £281 with tax and test and that was nearly 2 years ago, that was on eBay,
I've bought some fantastic cars on there in the past.
Just save a search on eBay with your criteria and something will come up in your price range in the next day or two

Just done a quick autotrader search in the area, this caught my eye

Do a 30-mile search set to a grand, loads of st but a few ones that look in good nick. Volvo S40's seem to be a lot of car for their money, as do Rovers of any model.

Pre-2001 Audi A4's are great snotter zone cars. You can get well looked after examples with sensible mileages for very little. Only downside is these will be petrols and the most common 1.8 will do 30 but no more.
Other good ideas are unfashionable cars - I'm sure many here will think I am mad but one of the best sub £1k buys is a Rover 45. Some are abused but there are 8-10 year old one owner examples out there which have been well looked after by an elderly owner and have low mileage. As long as the headgasket is OK they're generally quite good and even quite good to drive.

Any experience out of curiousity? The 1.6 I posted above reckons nearly 37 mpg combined, seems a wee bit ambitious?!Other good ideas are unfashionable cars - I'm sure many here will think I am mad but one of the best sub £1k buys is a Rover 45. With the K-series HGF, it's really not a big job even if it hasn't been done - and once it's done, as long as it's done properly it won't go again. Seriously underrated cars IMHO.

been there this morning! something didnt quite seem right, both me and my friend (experienced car buyer) both got a really bad feeling about it and walked, something just seemed very very wrong. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

How about a slightly different approach again...
Rather than limit yourself to a 25 mile radius of home, broaden your range, do some ringing around beforehand (hopefully if its a PH ad, the seller will be genuine...) and then go hunting?
You could plan a route that takes into account a few cars.
I don't know what car options there are within a 25mile radius of you, but I know there aren't many by me!

Rather naive approach wouldn't you say? No correlation between PH posters and PH sellers..
