How about an E46 318 saloon, 130Kish miles, fair bit of work done tidying it up. I'm selling it soon as I'm off travelling in less then a month!

Much laughs at all the waitrose shoppers on here proclaiming £1500 will only get you a banger on its last legs. £800 bought me this recently:

As cheap cars go they don't come much cheaper or much more PH! Sounds great, goes well, 4wd will be good fun in the snow and guarantees mini powerslides out of every junction in the wet. Plus there's that noise cloud9

Only fault thus far has been an engine management light came on briefly, ( although still running perfectly) which I diagnosed myself using the onboard light flashing system that 5 minutes searching scoobynet brought up. One knock sensor later at £18 and no further problems! It's done several track days, plenty of long journeys and hasn't missed a beat. PH Bangernomics at its best I'd say!

Nice Merc on eBay, it's done a few miles but is under budget and to do those miles must be well looked after. I suspect a typo though wink

How on Earth did you get that for 800 quid! Is that a Wrx?
When I was looking for scoobys I couldn't find any where the bid ended up less than £1500, and those were for the neglected ones.

I am quite jealous, that is top bargain finding.

How very odd confused Was everything as described? If it's too good to be true...
things just did seem a little too good to be true.
my friend with me knows the service department at audi where it was done, they said it had its MOT's there, thats it, but yet he presented a fully stamped book, seemed legit and all. totally threw us didnt add up.
Plus it was decalred as a disabled car for taxation purposes, with no signs of any disabled assistance systems and he just denied all knowledge of it. It was missing slightly as we test drove it, but we put this down to it being stood for a while.
The chap was nice - seemed genuine, but yeh i cant put my finger on it, both me and my mate just had that gut feeling it wasnt right. so walked. frustrating as the car seemed straight, everything appeared to work okay.

although it did better than the others we went to see!

Errrr what? Most disabled drivers don't need to a have a highly modified car in order to drive you know.

I know, again sorry its early! It just looked like a completely standard car, I wasnt sure why the car had been notified as disabled so it just kind of made me wonder.

There are loads of disabled taxation class cars out there and only a tiny percentage have any modifications.

That's exactly the same spec and engine as mine. It maybe worth knocking him down if it's missing, as on the old 1.6 its got ht leads and a dizzy, so no expensive coil packs to replace. Do also check the rear bulkhead isn't filled up with water as the drain plugs can get blocked and then the car leaks water under the carpets and can damage the convenience module under the carpet.
I broke a ht lead on mine recently so it started missing, I went down the local motor factors and it was £2 for a new one, I love it when jobs go like that.

Also I had a look on eBay and the Audi is on there, so maybe put in a cheeky offer.

Pretty much my thoughts. £1k is what you pay for an OK laptop these days
Part of my job is procurement and if I spent £1k on a laptop I'd be signing on pretty quickly.

A couple of old shape 9-3s - good spec, low miles, fairly simple to work on. Or do what I did, go and find a late model Saab 9000 - £750 for a car with 10 months tax&test. Leather, heated seats, climate, & 200bhp. Just sailed through the MOT.

Its not just the cheap cars. I'm looking for a jag xj 4.2v8 been to see 3 so far all had undeclared problems , 2 had dodgy service history as well. Sellers all seemed surprised that i found things wrong even though they were very obvious faults and gaps in service history you could drive a bus through.

If you've got a £1.5 budget then I'd spend £1k and keep £500 back for repairs. The five hundred on purchase price doesn't really add much in terms of quality, but you can carry out some decent repairs for that money.
