I'm in the same boat but near High Wycombe. Looked at loads of cars and spent too much money doing it. Most people just don't look after their cars. Got a similar but slightly flexible budget if anyones got anything locally.

Here's another angle for you that you might not have considered.

Everyone looks on ebay, PH, Auto Trader etc. etc. online, as that's where most people buy and sell cars. However, as you've found out, it gives an easy, cheap or free medium for lots of chavs to advertise tat and rubbish.

On 3 occasions in the last 10 years or so, I've needed a decent, cheap runabout - not bothered what it was, as long as it wasn't complete rubbish and was in decent condition.

Now, here's the secret weapon - don't tell anyone else, because I don't want anyone else stealing my secret biggrin

Local newspapers and cards in newsagent shop windows!!

In my experience, 'older' people still advertise their cars this way. They don't do / are scared of anything online. They usually have low-mileage, main dealer serviced cars that are clean and tidy.

And because most people search online too - every time I've called up an ad like this, the car is still for sale. And because they've had few / no phone calls, you can get away with a cheeky offer because by now they really want it sold.

HTH, but keep it to yourself...

current trade in offers are around £1500 i think its a hell of a lot of motor for that kind of money.
so good honest motors are out there you just have to look hard.

the only prob is im a lot more than 25 miles from you.

A neigbour's son in law was round earlier, noticed the for sale sign in the back window, BMW 735i for £1100, I think it was 140k on the clock with a replacement engine at about 80k. If this is the type of thing you are looking for I can get more details, I'm about ten minutes from Bridgend.
