And I wonder would it have make more sense to make the non structural body parts in GRP not carbon fibre? Might add 50kgs ( probobly a lot less in reality ) but if it could help knock £15k+ off the price maybe they would shift a lot more in these tough times
From an engineering perspective, perhaps. From a marketing one, almost certainly not. my friend and i were very seriously considering one of these in the early days, but the things that put me off were the usual worries with a startup, parts bin construction (there is NOTHING on the car that i couldn't order out of a catalogue tomorrow) and the not inconsiderable fact that after the initial positive press reaction, they just arbitrarily added £15k to the asking price. i wasn't having that... that is before you factor in the track day competition.
Also, the sales agent, supervettura, didn't impress me much, they did nothing to answer my initial feedback so with it all added together i decided to see what the market made of them before i lost my shirt. i'm still not sure what the market thinks of them, i've never seen one out and about or for sale!!!

Another superb video but then the reviews I've read on the BAC Mono have all been good too.
I agree about the details of the car; there was one at Oulton Park last year on Touring Car weekend and we spent ages walking round it taking photos; the engineering is exquisite.
It's a shame this video only lasted 7:40. I know that making it longer would have been dragging it out and I'm thankful that you don't do that. I also realise that you're only one man and that getting videos with cars of the quality you do takes a lot of effort. However, it would be brilliant to see a 20-30 minute Chris Harris On Cars every week. I know I'm just one of many who looks forward to your car videos/programmes every week and we'd all like to see them last as long as 'Fearsome'. ;-)

Sat in this car back in March 2011 at its launch at Ferrari Nottingham and loved it. It really is a piece of art, and having owned an Ariel Atom I can assure you this car is at another level in terms of build quality etc. You have to see it to appreciate it.
Don't take this the wrong way but I worry about build quality on a Rolls, Bentley, Jaguar, BMW or even a car I'm buying for daily use perhaps. Why would I care about panel gaps and rattles on a racecar where the engine/gearbox are probably mounted to the frame and the suspension probably has steel links/no bushing!?!?
Why would I pay almost twice the price of an Atom for 1 less seat but a better made package!?
I guess some people will - and are doing so - I just cannot imagine I ever would BUT I'm unlikely to have the big end of 100 large to spend on a toy anytime soon so I guess it's irrelevant
Looks great both in terms of handling and aethetics, but £80k?
You can get an F1 car for £65k and spend the rest on running it at test days.

I don't think the guys that built this car give a toss that some people want two seats or downforce or £15k off the list price. I'm certain they're not trying to compete with Ford Fiestas or even Ariel Atoms for that matter. To complain that they're not trying hard enough to is frankly pointless.
I applaud what these guys have done and fot it to be anything else would be a compromise too far. That such a thing of beauty and near perfection exists in a world or unaesthetic kit-car half bakery is testament to their skills and dedication to their cause. I'm glad that it exists!
Top marks guys!

Yes there are risks with a strait up co. but that's applied to a number of notable outfits before. Single seater for the road is its design basis and a concept motorcyclists get plus how often is the second seat filled anyway. The build and end to end engineering in the mono shouldnt be compared to atom and the like IMO, if this is the case then most likely not the target customer. If they make them it will be an instant collectors item, production capability will make or break as the rest is already done ie good reviews and a waiting list.

The BAC team are not a start up company, check out the history of the two brothers that run the company. Their experience and reputation in the motor industry takes a lot of beating.Personally I would love one. I never drive fast with a passenger in the car so a solo seat is ideal. Also the fact that the car has little in the way of downforce means its a much more drivable package that relies only on mechanical grip.
