Ahh, do you think so? Ok, it provoked a Media storm and a Government knee-jerk reaction - but surely it would have come sooner or later anyway?

even without the AC incident - I don't think we would have had continued de-restricted use of our Motorways like Germany...it just would have been some other incident to make the limit happen I reckon.
You're probably correct, it's just that I am of the view that high speed travelling is of advantage.
In the air it is so, ok less since the sad demise of Concorde.
Faster = more efficient in most other areas, so why not all forms of transport?
Agreed - seems our Government and local authorities don't though!

As you say, I find it 'inversely hilarious' that most things the human race have strived for involve speeding things up - from computers to all forms of transport - except cars!!

Don't get me started on the latest craze of making loads of de-restricted A roads into 50 limits...grrrr! mad

Intresting wonder whats recording the speeds?
I'm assuming it's data from the TraffficMaster network which is why it's not all that accurate and showing anomalous speed spikes.

All the trucks on the road would peg the average speed way back

Ruined it for all those after.
AC Cars would have better been named BC Cars.
According to an article in C&SC the 70mph limit was planned before the 185mph test of the AC's A98 Cobra Couple & had nothing to do with it being implemented.

Can't have helped though frown

When John Gott was chief constable of northants the rumour was that the test drivers from newport pagnell would be ignored on the m1 in that county if out and about prior to 6-30 am .
For those younger members John was against the 70mph motorway limit.was an owner of a very rapid Healy 3000 racer.long standing racer who died of a heart attack in his racer on cicuit at Lydden.
