Is this a 'safe' set up for a Golf Tdi?
Discussion
I am still on the look out for a Golf, I have seen a nice one which has the following upgrades:
115 engine replacement, on 74,000 miles
130 Turbo and Injectors
Remap + Cobra Exhaust system, De-Cat
Side mount intercooler
Drilled/Grooved Discs and new pads
150 Intake and EGR Delete
Coilovers
Plus a few exterior mods. I am just curious as to whether this set up is OK for every day driving, Will it be reliable, Still return good MPG etc? Its had the cambelt done so thats good for a while.
What sort of power will it be running and will it be running it safely is my main issue.
Thanks

Personally, with that amount of mods, I wouldn't touch it with a disinfected barge-pole unless I knew who had had done the work.
I went to view an ebay car some years ago which had a similar sort of new engine/turbo upgrade/tuning box/other bu**sh*it done by some utter incompetent rim-piece in their back garden.
My view, however, may be tainted by this.
I would just consider, perhaps, that if parts were needed in the future and one went to a site like Europarts (for example) and plugged the registration number in, how on earth could the correct parts be sourced without personal knowledge of the modified 'bits'.

Will it go through an MOT with the EGR removed and no cat?
I wouldn't buy the car, as the mods seems unusual for a deisel golf. I would expect it to of been ragged, and I doubt it would pass an MOT with the EGR removed and no cat.The important question is why was the engine replaced. Without that question answered I wouldn't even consider buying it.

Price is also an issue, it should be priced a good deal less than a standard model with flawless history.
I suspect the coilovers are wound right down to give the car a 'stance'.
And are the cheap ebay ones, for about £200, which utterly, utterly destroy the handling on cars.I suspect the coilovers are wound right down to give the car a 'stance'.
Stereotyping here but, I would suggest that it has been a 'yoof' who has owned the car - I.e. someone who is unable to afford to buy / insure a GTI but wants to 'improve' their Golf; thus the mods. They would also, one would assume, rag the tits off it in an attempt to emulate a GTI.
Suspect engine history too is another walking away point, plenty of diesel Golfs around...
