Hi, I currently have an Audi TT which is being returned and replaced by a C Class Estate as we have got into camping and need more space (AMG Sport plus for those following the other thread lol).

What we would like though is a fun car that can be used from time to time and a budget up to about £6k. It has to have low running costs and also be convertible but not worried about space as the Mercedes will carry out those duties. So fun but newish, problem free and cheap to run!

I can see this being the obvious choice! Only thing is I am not sure on the looks - they seem to look like they are on tip toes!

Are those going to be potentially expensive to maintain? No mechanical knowledge here so would be going to garage for anything it needed.

Depends what you mean by expensive. You say you won't use it much, so it's not going to need much maintenance, not going to go through too many tyres/consumables.

For £6k, I'd be looking for more excitment than an MX-5. They're great cars, I love them, but I just wouldn't spend that sort of money on one when there are these other options out there.

Does £6k put you in a VX220? I have no idea what they're going for these days.
I was a bit concerned about complexity and that if something did go wrong it would be a big bill to repair on something that will do max 4k miles per year.

The vauxhall sounds interesting. Is an Elise likely to be a disaster at this price? Also 6'1" - had problems fitting legs under steering wheel in MR2 I sat in.
