Hi guys, my motor is up for sale on Autotrader and I received this email (below) from an "interested buyer" today. I have copied and sent it to autotrader but I would like the PH opinion while I'm waiting. It doesn't ask for the expected bank details but that may still come.

Thanks, Les

Hi,
Thanks for your quick response and am also Delighted to hear from you that the vehicle is still available for sale.

I am ok with the Terms and Conditions of sale also ok with your Final asking Price as Stated and will want to go ahead with the purchase of Car.A Cheque or Banker Draft shall be issue to you in your name payable to you immediately and i will arrange pick up after the Cheque or Banker Draft is 100% cleared .

You don't have to worry yourself about the shipment, My Private Transporter will take care of shipping as soon as you confirm the payment is Cleared by your Bank and will also want to know if there is any other miscellaneous payment like, the tax charges, etc that will be added to it.

The Transportation cost and General maintenance cost will be added to the Total amount that will be issued on your Behalf and it will be used By My shipper who will be coming for the Pick Up at your location after your bank confirms cash available for use.

The vehicle would only be released and the title documents once your bank has confirmed the cleared funds. From the moment your bank confirm the money has cleared My shipping agent will be available for collection, after you have contacted me to inform me that payment is cleared.

Would email you all my full information in advance of who I'm sending and the I.D they will be showing you. I will also give them a photocopy of my driving license and 1 other proof of I.D (I.E - Utility Bill) I hope you understand this.

I want you to get back to me with all the necessary information listed below in order to make out the Cheque or Banker Draft

I like the part where he says he is going to pimp said car.

May I ask, what car it is?

I'm sure they think the more they type the more genuine it looks.

"Fully Pimp" no less. And his daughter is already fun of the car.

Seems a shame to dissapoint them.

It's a Subaru Forester, the perfect pimping wagon hehe

I was 99.9% sure it was a scam, but since PH has always been a useful source of info I thought I would post it up.

I BLOODY WELL WISH I HADN'T BOTHERED, GIVEN THE SHORT TIME IT TOOK FOR ME TO BE HUNG, DRAWN AND QUARTERED!!!!

I will be very wary about what I post in the future.

A better start would be 'wats da lowest ud take 4 it m8' as that's more likely to be the first email received, not war and peace. Did like the bit about 'pimp the car', that's a new one at least.

NO, you shouldn't have bothered, your pimp wagon would now be in good handssmile

But you did, it isn't, and you'll know next time hopefully.

AND DON'T BE SO SENSITIVE, IT WAS EDUCATION YOU CLEARLY NEEDED.

There was another forum post asking the same thing a few weeks back. The wording is very similar in this case to the previous one. Wouldn't be surprised if it's identical.

And yes, it is.

My dad had about three or four emails like this and he was only selling an old Rover for a few hundred pounds. I'm surprised Autotrader / the police don't do more to clamp down on this. They must be able to trace the email address.
