Hi Guys,

This is probably a stupid question.

I've got the remains of a mark 4 Astra which was written off by my insurance company and then bought back by me.

I've stripped a lot of the parts off it and now want to scrap the shell.

I've got the log book for it (old blue one not the new red one) but this is from before the car was written off and hasn't been updated to say that the vehicle is a Cat C write off.

How would I go about getting the car scrapped?

Do I just phone a scrap yard/breakers and get them to come and get it? Do I hand over the log book to them or send it off to the DVLA? Will it cause problems that I've only got the old style log book?

I know that these are probably stupid questions but I've never had to scrap a car before so don't know what I need to be doing.

Any help would be appreciated (and feel free to take the piss out of me for asking so many daft questions!)

Cheers

Matt

Phone breakers yard, just give the driver the bit they need off the V5 when they pick your car up.

take it and weight it in at the local scrap metal mechants.
send log book off to dvla with relevant scrapped section filled in.

I've had a look at the V5 and it looks like I give them all of the logbook except the "transfer to motor trade" bit which I send to the DVLA.

Is this right?

Does it matter that its an old style blue V5?

he doesnt say its not a rolling shell??

edit

hmm, just had a quick look and it does appear that they have changed the way they deal with scrapping cars now. I scapped loads in the past just did exactly what I said before neve had problem, although non in the last 5 years...

Its definitely not a rolling shell, it's got no engine wheels or suspension laugh

One more stupid question as well (sorry). The look book is registered to a different address to where the car is located, it is registered to me though. Will this cause any problems?
