That particular car was featured in an excellent article in the May 1995 Sports Car International magazine...I found a mint copy on eBay recently and it was a great read.

A little creeped out by the toy car loving. Like when Horsey or Dog people talk about conversations they have with 4 leggec friends.

At the time - "the most powerful road-car in the world" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wekbxaQXz50
And still, one of the most powerful, even 20 years on. Looking forward to reading more about it. Perhaps take Mr Harris out for a drive...?

One of, if not my favourite super car of all time.

Completely under valued in the history of the super cars in my opinion.

on my lottery win list for sure.

One of the most impressive things about the shape is that if it came out today with more modern wheels and interior it would look new.

It's a stunning car and almost a shame that JLR don't bring out another.

Great to see an XJ220S that still retains it's originality.

They were originally all painted in lurid colours and some have been repainted in boring black or silver.

Like others have said - definitely a lottery win car.

Oh, and there's some seriously lucky (hard working) people on this thread.

Could you possibly just try a few posts among your 100+/day that don't make you sound like you're trying to be cleverer than the guy you're replying to?

The truth is that you sound like the bloke in the pub who is constantly trying to prove everyone wrong, and to 'demonstrate' how much he knows. No idea whether this is the case, or whether you're just one of those 'super-keen' guys that feels like he always has the most relevant point to make.

Given the sheer volume of posts you contribute to this forum, it's very difficult to screen your contributions - can you at least try to make them feel a little less like squirting lemon juice in my eyes?
Ok then, here's a deal. How about everytime you visit PH you don't quote one of my comments and add some sort of snide remark as though you are a school yard bully? Does that sound fair?
The only reason that I quote you is because I want you to see how you sound. Some of the stuff you reply is immensely patronising, invariably 'I know better', and largely dismissive.

It's one thing for me to "bully" you by highlighting this ridiculous 'personality'. But it's another thing entirely to virtually flood sections of the board with these kinds of posts, and to completely derail threads in a manner which screams "EVERYONE LOOK AT ME. I KNOW FAR BETTER THAN YOU."
That's a far more eloquent way than i'd be inclined to put it. biggrin
Well-written Dave200. thumbup

Even though i'm not really a fan of the TWR-modded version, it does look much better in orange than yellow.
If we were to pretend the standard XJ220 doesn't exist then i'd quite like it!

Good old Tom Walkinshaw. Motorsport is a lesser place without him. I bet he made a few bob out of the XJ220. Was Jaguar really that stupid. The XJR15 looked good and it had a V12 but they are supposed to be st to drive. Tom made a fortune out of them. Station Field Industrial Estate in Kidlington will never be the same Tom's looking down and laughing!

As a child I had a blue model which I literally caressed every single day. I've been in love with the XJ220 from day one. My father took me sometime in the early-mid '90s to see one in a museum.....to me it was just everything. I was mesmerised. I would dearly love the chance to sit in one/ride.

Fantastic. Still one of the fastest cars you can buy: and possibly the best value 200+ mph car at the moment.

So, can we finally put the "engine from a metro" nonsense to bed. Permenantly because the nonsense has damaged the car from day one. The engine is from this:

Not this:

So repeat after me: "....yeah, the XJ220. a great car. Its got proper downforce inducing bodywork and the engine from a Group C jaguar racing car. Designers today realise that a long, wide car is great for aerodynamics and downforce. Just look at the size of modern ferraris...

It does indeed - and what a magnificent car the XJR10 was/is. If you get a chance to visit JD Classics (who run the car in the pic), I believe he owns most of them (alongside some other very exotic machinery). So, for the avoidance of doubt - the XJ220 is propelled by a TWR-developed Group C racing engine, which is why it was able to smash the 'ring record back in '92, attain the speed record for a road car, win at Le Mans and why it can still out-run a Zonda (as Top Gear were amazed to discover).
