Do these plates really make the money asked?
Discussion
On the day of release I got up to the payment screen (£400) for CH61 SEA which is obviously football related but unique as its not actually a personalised plate.
Website crashed and someone else nabbed it - currently for sale for £50k I believe.
I thought I may be able to sell on for a couple of grand at least - I have no interest in football.

I've got a slightly funny plate I bought for about £4k some years ago (currently on my Jag). Recently, at Goodwood, someone offered me £10k for it. Didn't buy it for an investment, so not selling, but it made me realise these things can be an investment! That said, it's all about having a willing buyer I guess!

There was a single number 1 that sold recently for north of £500k. It happens.
I thought £440k was the record, for F1. Or is this like car auctions where the big sales actually happen behind closed doors?Edited by MrReg on Thursday 9th August 09:29
Either way, I think the pricing on most of those big sites is massively optimistic.
Yes once a plate is owned by someone else it can be sold without hitting others radars so to speak.
I have no doubt X1 will go for over £500k.
Re Otimistic pricing. Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who believe that they are onto a winner with a plate and will ask stupid money for it thinking "it will only take one idiot to want it". I have never known a plate to sell like that. Let's face it those people with money have earnt it because they are clever - they will not pay for overpriced rubbish. A great example is of a guy who was trying to sell us a plate something like L7 CFS which was L for Frank Lampard, 7 for his shirt number, and CFS for Chelsea Football Stadium. He really believed that Lampard would pay £50k for the number as it was his perfect plate.
The idea that advertising your plate at over £100k will generate interest is crap as well. It will merely put people off it, as witnessed with a certain infamous plate on here. If a plate is overpriced you won't get a bid on it as people will just bypass it.

Been after a certain plate but couldn't find it anywhere or any refernce to it. Rang DVLA to see if it had ever been issued "No, that plate has never been issued" " Can I buy it then" "I'll pass your details to the sales team, they will notify you if and when it goes on sale" "When is that likely to be" "No Idea" "How Much" "No idea" ........... brilliant. I presume they may, or may not, include it in some future auction - anyone know the process?
An example to get the DVLA scouring massive hot under the collar: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance...

UmmmmmmStrange how it didn't meet it's reserve but sold very close to it. Apparently the buyers says he won't put it on a vehicle yet and will advertise it for resale soon.
I have been after a certain plate - nothing fancy - for a few years.
Pretty sure i saw it for sale somewhere for around £400 but has since disappeared.
I can get P12 DSY for a few hundred quid but its not quite right. None of the dsy plates are below p12 which is odd.
It'll pop up one day.
