PT Cruisers were built to look like a hot rod, but it is a shame they didn't at least put a V8 in, and rear wheel drive.
It was built as a budget car, well actually it was registered as a light truck to reduce the CAFE (corporate average fuel efficiency) ratings for the Dodge pickup line. But it was just meant to be a funky alternative to a Focus classed vehicle in the US, cars which are normally like the dull looking Camry on a whole. So the PT was quite a revelation in what you could buy at this price point. But I agree it's no hot rod.

Same with the Plymouth Prowler, only came with a V6 motor???? WTF. Big mistake.

Just been reading up on these. It seems the entire driveline was taken out of an existing model range, I guess to reduce costs. But a valid point is made that the V6 actually made as much or more HP than the companies then V8's, it was also lighter and smaller than a V8. In this light you can see why they maybe went for it. The old 5.2 and 5.9 Magnum motors where dogs in a modern era and the Hemi was out yet.

I have no idea what is classed as a hot rod, street rod etc and to be fair I don't care (i'm not old enough to remeber the first time around (sorry) and as I don't know what I'm on about I won't comment on whos right or wrong) I just like seeing something different that somebody has spent a time and money to make their own

Please can we see more pictures?

I win because you misinterpreted my earlier comments and claimed they said something they didn't? confused

Whats the score with exposed wheels over here ?
It's a construction & use regultion rather than an MOT thing, C&U regs sya you need them for mud & spray, So not really an issue in the dry. It's also not endorsable so no points but a fine i believe. Lots of people use small, detchable cycle wings.

Many people saw the series, and instantly assume Boyd Coddington was a dick, but he and his team won the AMBR (Americas Most Beautiful Roadster) trophy six times, more than anybody else ever did.

And you don't do that by shouting and yelling at your guys like you saw in the American Hot Rod farce.......
American Hot Rod painted an incredibly bad picture of Boyd, he must have been livid with the final edits.
From the stories I've heard from quite a large number of people that had had personal dealings with Boyd..........he was indeed a dick.

interestingly though Foose never came across as a total cock, can't see it's hurt his bank balance any?
I met him at his place back in 2008 just after the whole Foose Stallion debacle.

Genuinely nice bloke. And extremely observant. He commented on the fact that he'd seen us drive by earlier in the day and told us what car we were driving.

I had the pleasure of meeting Boyd on a number of occasions, the first time back in the early 80's when he was still working out of his garage at the back of his house. He was opinated but in general a nice guy. What people tend to forget is that he changed the face of Hotrodding and helped spawn the whole Billet thing.

When I last saw him I asked him what he thought of how he was portrayed on the American Hotrod show, he was very matter of fact and said, "Look its just entertainment. Building Hotrods is a very slow and labour intensive business, that does not make for a good show" So yes a lot was scripted and arranged to provide tension on screen.

But I liked the man, if not all his cars

It doesn't change the lunacy around what is and isn't called a rod though. And in many cases it really is just people being a little too precious about it, rather than simply enjoying the cars.

I like them all, who really cares about the name?
Rat Rod, Hot Rod, Street Rod, Show Rod, Resto Rod?, who cares.

I just call the ones I build MY rod. It works for me. biggrin

So, is the Prowler a Warm Rod or a Lukewarm Rod?

Great pics there guys, my personal preference is for some of the more extreme old metal-bodied US Rat Rods, lots of ingenuity and humour there, lots on YouTube.

I remember years ago, my folks had been away for a weekend. And came back with a photo of that bus and yellow late 30's chevy(?) Coupe they had taken for me.

I'll see if they can find it...

This confirms it Hot Rods and Rods in general never went away, just hid from the rain.
As the greater majority of these pics are taken in this country, it makes for a brilliant showcase o the talented guys around the country.
Now, to the For Sale column!!
