Bugatti have a production car land speed record, but other car manufacters are threatening to take that record away. SSC are making that new Tuwatura thing and Koeingsegg are building the Agera R which is supposed to do speeds in excess of 270mph.

So why don't Bugatti make a 'racing' Veyron? Here's my idea. Take a Veyron Supersports and strip out the entire interior. Then add a new lightweight steering wheel and one lightweight bucket seat. This would save a good amount of weight and should improve the speed by a few miles per hour. Remove the lights and all the other unnessacary things; make it a track only race car like an FXX.

As soon as the works done, take it to the track and improve on the record. Job's a good 'un.

What's wrong with my idea and why have Bugatti not done this?

They don't have to.

The Veyron is easily the most talked about car of this century. Every magazine showing a new hypercar will use the Veyron as a reference at some point, think about it.

Good troll, I'll bite... How would stripping out interior affect top speed? It wouldn't.

Of course it would- it would have a lightweight steering wheel

hehe

The main problem would still be weight, despite having a lightweight steering wheel and a stripped-out interior.

Plus they don't need to make a race version, as said above.

At those sorts of speeds, weight is an advantage rather than a disadvantage since it reduces the amount of work needed on the aero to keep it stable. it's a shame Veyrons don't have back seats though, since they can't be folded down. Perhaps they should wait until the Galiber is released?

If they fitted a lightweight steering wheel, AND some rear seats, they could leave them down for even more speed.....

And a manual so you could cadence clutch.

The Veyron has a DSG gearbox so if you chipped the gearbox software you could automatically cadence clutch BOTH clutches to go even faster! wink

Maybe i shouldn't have wrote about the lightweight steering wheel. hehe

However if removing weight won't affect top speed then surely it'll have a positive impact on handling and lap times? This is the Veyrons main problem.

Why don't they do the top speed run at a track with a higher altitude, then the air will be thinner and they will get less resistance wink

Has anyone actually seen a video of the SSC Aero doing 257mph?

One should take any top speed idea with a pinch of salt. All you really need to make a faster car is to be a master of bullst marketry.
Observe: http://www.supercars.net/lists/topspeed.html

I don't know what the fastest car in the world is and wouldn't like to venture a guess.

For all the piss taking I think the OP has a very good point. Why don't we sey the top supercar of all time in more high profile racing?
