Having just sold my car looking for a replacement toy and there is some strange ways people have to sell their car.
First one I phone tells me to put questions in an email, send email and the reply is "fed up with time wasters emailing me - just come and see the car"
Second one I phone refuses to answer any questions when I mention that there is a few cars I want to find out more about
Another abruptly tells me to busy to talk about car phone back in a day or two (this after sending text asking best time to phone)
One numpty wont waste time on phone calls or emails until we agree on a price for car first
In saying that some people have been very helpful, answering all my questions especially those on the owners forums.
Anyways back to the classifieds to see what else I can find

First off IMO it's not a sports car more of a GT/cruiser. I certainly prefer it to my old Audi TT; don't get me wrong the TT had some lovely design touches but for me the CF is FAR more comfortable (especially ride comfort) and less gloomy looking inside not to mention nowhere near as common. The TT is better on fuel and grips the road well - but then the CF doesn't exactly run out of grip easily either. All in all (to me) the CF is a more special place in which to find yourself, though I will understand if someone who's owned both will feel slightly differentlyNotice you have a crossfire how do you find that ?

I much prefer to email in the first instance, as I can get all the question I need to down in one go, and the recipient can answer when it suits them.
There is no way I've driving half way across the county to find out the car has no Service History etc.
I would want a full history of the car and so forth and prefer to do that by e-mail. I will similarly not go any distance to see a car that may be crud so no e-mail, no sale, no exceptions. I don't like talking on the phone either as you're too busy being nice to get to the nitty-gritty questions you don't like to ask in person like have you made the car stink by smoking in it...
If there is an option, I always email first.
Allows me to put my questions down and give the buyer a chance to look up anything they dont know rather than just making it up on the spot. If they reply with a half arsed answer, missing questions out etc. then I just assume it's not worth my time or they are hiding something.

I have asked for more details for about 10 cars - not excessive I think. Apart from those mentioned in first post most people have been friendly and helpful especially those from the owners clubsPerhaps there is something in your manner that projects this and people can't be bothered?

Hi There looking for a few more details about car. I'm up in Glasgow so quite a bit away so was wondering if you would mind if I got someone from the owners club to have an initial look for me ? Also can you tell me if the clutch/gearbox appear in good health and is there any sign of the clicky axel or worn bushes. Thanks

It was the schizophrenic nature that got me - asked to email as he was to busy to answer questions, no problem with that as I prefer email enquirers when selling car but then when I did told to basically bugger off and come view the car I much prefer to email in the first instance, as I can get all the question I need to down in one go, and the recipient can answer when it suits them.

I think a lot depends on the advert, for example, on Friday i advertised my MR2, i listed out all the specs, listed when all the services had been done, date and mileage and also listed date and mileage of every single MOT, 11 in total I think.
I put enough info in the description to give a buyer a good insight into the car.
On Friday eve I get a call from a chap in france, thought it was a time waster, but he seemed quite serious and the fact he had called me led me to believe he was not a scammer.
He turned up sat afternoon, looked over the car, took it for a long test drive of about 30 miles, and then offered me £100 below my asking price. The whole thing was really smooth, did the paper work and he handed the cash over.
Just before leaving he asked if I wanted to have one last drive in it, which I agreed to, so I took it straight to the petrol station, filled it up with fuel and took it home, handed the keys over and wished him well.
Got a text back Sunday morning saying thanks and he had a lovely drive back to france in it.

Oddly there is nothing wrong with that at all. HOwever, I would read that and think '>groan< I cannot be arsed with this'I cant really put my finger on it. TO start with, this person automatically has to make himself and his car available to be inspected by someone that is not a prospective purchaser. But its not just that.
I dont know. Maybe just a bit too abrupt. Unfriendly and demanding in a disinterested way.
SOrry I cant really be more constructive because I cant quite put my finger on it but its like you are demanding all kinds of things right from the off, yet cant be bothered to type more than a sentence?

I was opposite when selling the TVR its was the long winded over familiar ones that made me groan and think just get to the point. Hopefully not a problem now as have a wee list of cars to see and hopefully no need to be contacting anyone else
