I think a lot of the old money cars are a bit to blingy nowadays.
This. I really cannot see a proper, really posh person driving one of these current tarts handbag Rolls/Bentleys/Rangies/german 4x4s etc. Hell - I wouldn't drive one.

I think the word we are looking for is "vulgar", and if you can possibly apply that word to a car then old money won't be driving it.

Old crewe built Royce and an old Discovery. Maybe a TD5 if they are feeling a little flash.

Then a garage full of classics.

Mum and dad have a fair whack of land...passed down, and also own our company which he started.

Dad drives a 89 volvo 240 estate, bought new, mum a 1990 w124 estate also bought new. Both still immaculate, lifted every Friday and valeted. There's also a 1927 ghost in the garage which does c~ 2k pa.

My landlord and lady own a castle and drive a Subaru... Although I wouldn't as rude as to enquiry exactly if they'd class themselves as old money buyers

I use to work for a very wealthy chap, the estate even had it's own pub in the grounds. He had a new G-wagen, an old Rolls and the estate manager a new Landie. The boss's wife on the other hand, had the tattiest Renault 5. The manhours spent keeping that thing running was mind boggling.

I know another who has a Bentley Shooting-break just for the dogs and an Alvis.

My parents are reasonably 'old money'

Pa has recently chopped in ma's 1989 Volvo 760 Turbo estate and his 1997 Mercedes E320 estate for one 2007 Volvo XC70.

The Volvo we've had since new, the Mercedes was the Co Car of the MD of our construction co & pa took it on when it was about 4 years old.

Very different cars - the Volvo was feral and smelt of Dalmatian, the MB was feral and smelt of old sailing gear and labrador
