RE: McLaren's shocking one-off X1

Don't dislike it as such but it's not very McLaren. If it was someones idea of a reborn Delahaye or Talbot Lago then maybe.
Should keep all the McLaren loving Ferrari haters quiet who are so quick to slag off the latest Ferrari one off, spouting the usual McLaren would never dilute the brand in the name of commercialism crap.

This thread demonstrates quite clearly why car design changes at a very tedious glacial rate. Most folk can't take a leap. They can only like something if its firmly anchored in other everyday mediocre pieces of ubiquitous and accepted design. It's a shame, its the very same reason why we all sit aroudn moaning about the latest 3 series or 911 and how it hasn't changed at all.
Looks like a go-faster, Bonneville read Prius. Are McLaren that desperate for cash that they’ll do anything those with no taste ask for? I’d have more respect for them if they’d politely asked the tasteless punter to go and see Mr Mansory instead.
At least when you get specials from Pagani et al, you generally get something that truly enhances the underlying car. Money doesn’t buy taste, but it does by anything you like from Woking.

It's business, nothing more, nothing less... Ferrari make one offs specials force well wedged individuals. Porsche have done it. Even Rolls Royce would mod, customise and bespoke for anyone brandish necessary moolah. You can just see it, if you're crazy enough to give us that amount of money to build this piece of craziness you're on. Why would Mclaren refuse the money/work? The customer would more than likely go to another manufaturer. At least when you get specials from Pagani et al, you generally get something that truly enhances the underlying car. The Sultan of Brunei, google him and check out some of the made sh it he's had built... Like this Rolls Royce!!!

I can remember seeing a photo of the Panther on a car magazine back in the 70's and being amazed by its looks.Fair play to McLaren for building this, not most people's cup of tea, but in an age where we moan that cars are designed in wind tunnels, it's good to see stuff like this can still happen. Who knows we may see it at Goodwood FoS in years to come amongst other one off cars.
I like it.
It is great to see that designers have the freedom to produce something original that stands out from the crowd. I just wish we could see the other one-offs that have been designed by other manufacturers such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, etc.
I can see influences from three other cars: the Panther 6, Italdesign Aztec and the Spyker C12 Zagato.
Sorry I cant get pictures of these as I am on my phone.
Well done to McLaren and the customer for having the courage to do this.
