Either way however big smoker estates are cool.

Strictly speaking, "the bork" is the money required to fix the faults you didn't spot before you bought it.

There will always be things wrong with a car - you'll realise this and budget for them appropriately - but then there's that 'event' which usually happens in the first month-or-so and which slowly, but surely, turns into a vortex of your wallet and car parts...

"The Bork" is strong in this one - basically - see Clarkson's Merc and it's running-up a repair bill bigger than it's purchase cost!!

Perhaps 'potential bork' would have been better.

The RS6 will cause your wife to leave you.

The 550i will plod along without much trouble.
So the RS6 is off the list.

Now the V70R or 530 E39 plus a Z4/350Z/S2000 option seems more likely.

Any views on the 305Z - seem to be quite a few decent looking ones in the 5-7k range

Still expensive, but no where near as bad as an RS6.

Or go for the cheaper still S4? Its still 320bhp with just a remap, so not slow

I'd prefer the estate to be bigger than the A4 series - I had a late 90's 2.8 estate and the rear legroom was less than in the GTR I had.

S4 and RS4 both very nice - but too small I think

Yes, that is their only downside. Rear legroom is crap to say the least!
We've got 2 kids and they both say its bad, but as its me driving along 90% of the time it does'nt bother me

Space is the key thing for the estate - that and a decent bit of power. Been going downhill in the power stakes in the last few years from GTR to S8 to A8 to 528, so fairly keen to go back above 200bhp at least smile
