Hi All,

Spent all day with my two young boys getting the car ready for the road!

The MK2 GTI 8v has been SORN for 3 years !!!!

Anyway, the car is washed, fluids have been checked and tyre pressures pumped up and battery charged.

I want to get the car over to a local garage which is about 6 miles away.....so what do I do first?

Call DVLA?
Insurance?
MOT?
Road tax??

I mean how do I get the car to the garage and get a MOT before the car is TAX'd??

I'm getting a bit confused.

HELP

Insurance, then MOT, then Road Tax.

Yep, make sure you have valid insurance cover before you put it on a public road. The law allows a vehicle to be driven without Tax to and from a pre arranged MOT (might be worth keeping hold of the garage phone no in case you get stopped by plod - they will call and check if you get stopped). Thats the way I understand it anyway.

good luck with the MOT, another classic back on the road hopefully!.

Because the law says you can drive to a pre-booked MOT and home again without tax.

Given you need an MOT to get tax, what do you think the government expects people to do? Trailer their cars about when they come off SORN?

As I said:-

Insurance
then MOT
then Tax

You allowed to drive to and from a pre booked MOT appointment
