this is a car i am fond of

http://www.vlturbo.com/gallery/3/view/vl-wagon-wit...

its a 3.0 litre skyline engine with 2 valves per cylinder - the 16valve head bolts on easy with massive hp potential wink

i nearly bought one when i lived in Sydney - sadly the gearbox was not in great condition and it required more cash spent on it than i had to spend

No one but two Brock Commodores for sale on the web.

Here is a second one with a maybe better history? Cheaper than that which started this thread too. Unfortunate lack of piccys mind.

the aussies had thier noses put out of joint by the GTR and Sierra's, i am not sure they liked the pommie cars showing them how it was done
Didn't they change the rules so only 2wd cars could compete? Nissan stopped competing for a while after that I think.
I thought it was that they banned turbochargers? I was quite young when the changes went in, it was not long after the Jim Richards 'pack of aholes' Bathurst.

It's a real shame if you ask me, I like variety in a series. One of my favourite races I remember as a kid was seeing a pair of green RX7 (MKVI OR VII) stomping at Bathurst 12 hour years ago. Could never find any footage of that...

Hmmm This thread is quite timely for me:

I have a 1989 HSV VN Commodore SV5000 (car 42) which is a hot V8 commodore from the same era (same shape) as the one in the pic. It is the oldest road going HSV commodore in the UK (I believe) and it was brought in by Tom Walkinshaw and used as his personal car. It was the cover car on wheels June 1990:

http://www.mycoverstory.com.au/1619/june-1990/

I bought it a couple of years ago and have had fun blasting around in it a weekends. A live axle, lightweight rear end, an lsd and stump pulling torque from a bellowing V8 adds up to HUGE fun. As of last month it is now out of MOT, and from looking at the floors last year when it was up on the ramps it will need welding for this year in a few places.

Its paint is poor and I had considered painting it white putting a cage in and stickering it up as a replica of the car in the photo, but due to the story of HDT, and the birth of HSV, it would seem like some sort of sacrilege to pass of Tom Walkinshaw's personal car as a Brock chariot with a 05 on the door. There was a bit of ill feeling and some time in the wilderness (see cossie with 05 above) before Brock came back to Holden.

It's sitting in my garage at the moment, no idea what I'm going to do with it. They are super rare even in Australia and I know if I move it on I will regret it, but with two young kids and another V8 toy, time to work on it and do it justice are in short supply.

I seem to be changing my mind on my intention every day on the: sell it/restore it/just MOT it question.

I took it to a couple of low key shows last year and printed off a data sheet for the windscreen. Some people were quite taken with it and I got lots more people speaking to me with questions about the Commodore than I ever get with my Lotus.

Commodores of this era are great fun. Not many others win on noise....

specs if people are interested:

Still, I've driven this model commodore with 520hp in improved production. What an absolute thrill. Like nothing on earth. You know that feeling you got when you were a kid and dreamed you could fly? That feeling in the dream when you flew? That's the thrill, accompanied by a V8 roar, too many 'G's' and a smile that would give you a flip top head.
