1968 Marcos.

I'm assuming the '1986' was a typo.

Interesting answer - the Rosengart was a French-built Austin 7, but I'm not sure if Herbert Austin was ever an MP. This was post-WW2, and the design had a later existence in southern climes. (This is getting really convoluted !)

I'm thinking some sort of Talbot but I'm struggling with the MP link. Am I warm or cold?

Matra, rings a bell with me. Probably wrongly. Coventry MP, maybe.

I think I may have selected something that's so obscure that it would take an age to guess correctly. Sorry.

Think Gregoire and Hartnett.

Herbert Austin Was an MP in the early 1920s (IIRC) and the 7 was a 'mass-market' car, with as you've pointed-out, a French connection. And although I wasn't aware of an involvement of a Le Mans designer, I thought it was worth as guess.

Damn, I thought it might have someone scratching their head.
It was given the go ahead by rolls- as long as it was only ever referred to as the rolls Royce, and never the rolls or roller

Anorak off- I'm off to bed

Sorry to be late to the table, I work at night.

Spot on! A really interesting story - he wanted to build a people's car, but after WW2 the Govt. made car makers export in return for steel, to help balance of payments, so he probably couldn't have sold many anyway.

The prototype was almost undriveable, so he arranged to build the Gregoire under licence, but his backers withdrew their support, and the project foundered. The Aussies wanted a home-grown small car and bought the rights, and built about 150 as the Hartnett. The design was used as the foundation for the Dyna-Panhard, which was successful in races and rallies.

The MP Kendall's constituency was Grantham, where the car was due to be built. (Wasn't that Thatcher's area?)

Styled by an Italian design house/coachbuilder for a British manufacturer, but never put into production.
