Well at least we can see your car history.
Nothing wrong with a Civic Type R, just not my sort of thing. I bought a Leon Cupra in 2003 but couldn't stand the lack of traction on damp roads, so it went.
I grew up with RWD and have generally stuck with that because I prefer it, so I returned to it in 2005 and have had nothing else since, apart from a shed Mazda that only lasted 6 months.
But have you posted about your car? If not why not? Because some people on here might give you grief? Well given your post why shouldn't they?
If you can't take it why give it FFS?
It is nice though.

Looking good Mr T.
Are those still available from BMW or did you manage to find second-hand ?

Thanks. Are those still available from BMW or did you manage to find second-hand ?

They are listed as NLA, and are very sought after (and therefore expensive).
I got lucky finding a pair in the right colour from someone who had sold his car and moved on to a Cayman S!
I really don't understand why they weren't standard, at least on M models - my E46 325ti Sport had them.

Just saw this pop up and had an idle Google to refresh my memory
At the time as a kid, when the Z3M came out, I thought it was fantastic looking.
Now when I look at it, I don't think it's aged well at all. The Z4M on the other hand has.. yes, I know it's newer, but the lines just flow better. Now I've grown up and could actually purchase either, it would be the Z4M I would go for.
I must also admit that I wouldn't be interested in anything other than an M version, the rest seem a bit too hairdresser for me.
I loved the Z3MC too, and their prices are going mad now. At the time as a kid, when the Z3M came out, I thought it was fantastic looking.

To the extent I couldn't afford one even if I wanted one, but I think the Z4MC shape looks less dated now anyway and the M is really special - primarily because of the S54 engine.
But I had 3.0Si Coupes for 5 years before I got my M and they are pretty special with 265PS and a 7,000 rpm red-line - but EPAS, run-flats and no LSD don't help. Still they feel like 80% of the car for 50% of the money, so for anyone on a budget (like I was when I had mine) I wouldn't discount them.
The Roadsters are the hair-dresser cars!

I like the Z4 coupé.
I wouldn't mind one for a weekend car.
I think people who go out of their way to post nasty comments about people who post car photos are the ones who need to re-evaluate their life choices.
Mr Tidy, I like your Z4M.
Thanks - it does seem a bit Marmite, or maybe my posts are - whatever. I like the Z4 coupé.

And yes, there’s a 35 page thread on my car on here. Feel free to comment, I won’t get mad.

I'll stick my neck out and post mine. Stickered up to follow the Mille Miglia in 2017.
Cheekily made up some numerals - No. 70 in honour of the BMW win in 1940.
Managed to confuse the officials at times (highlight being driving through the time stage end at Piazza del Campo).
Norwegian co-driver, who's good on ice. Clearly a necessary skill for driving Italy in May

Glad you joined the thread Mr Tidy!
Your Z4M is looking stunning as always.
Cheers. Your Z4M is looking stunning as always.
Maybe I get a bit over-enthusiastic about it, but it's by far the best car I've owned and being the wrong side of 60 it may be the best car I will ever own.

Nice car. Congrats. I think they've grown old gracefully and that engine is a peach. Have you modified the suspension and if so did it improve the day to day ride?
Thanks I bought it fitted with H & R coil-overs that were only adjustable for ride height, which do nothing for the ride quality! But it also came with a set of H & R lowering springs and a set of Eibachs.
I've also bought a set of OE 224 wheels so plan to get them refurbed, new tyres fitted, buy some Bilstein B6 shocks and get those fitted along with the H & R springs then a full alignment, but I've hardly used it given how the last year has been.
My plan hasn't changed, but circumstances have slowed things down.
All I do know so far is OE set up rides way better than my H & R coil-overs!
Well that escalated.... But then it is a forum.
I'm still new to the Z4M, 1200 miles, 7 month & about £2300 of work done (Full service, Bearing shells, brake lines and a through going over)
It looks great (Apart from the front) I have a GruppeM coming in Feb and that will be the last thing I do to it. Might add proper bluetooth to the CD connection. But for me it is a great weekend car / Holiday car. It was a toss up between this and a 996/997. But I was put off by the ownership costs, and I wanted something a but more unique (and an M)
As has been said I had to re learn how to drive it properly. Roll on NC500!!!!! (C19 permitting!)

Well I think the Z4 Coupe looks great and the M worth it just for the engine alone. It can't be silly money to improve the suspension and they've been around long enough now for people to know the best set up surely? Noticeably cheaper still than an E46 M3 too.
Well the Z4M Coupe is definitely rarer than the M3 with just 592 registered in the UK, and no boot floor cracking! Worth a visit to z4forum for suspension options - depending on how you'd plan to use one.
I think looking for "a single dynamic measurement in which the Z4 M is superior to the E46 M3" is missing the point of the Z4M - or at least the part of it which caused me to love mine.
I actually think Hammond summed it up pretty well (As does Harris in the last paragraph). It doesn't compare with a Cayman (or Boxster for the roadster), but equally I simply didn't have as much fun in the Boxster compared to my roadster. The lairy 340bhp, heavy steering (tightened up a little with a front strut and some new rubber) and sitting virtually over the rear axle meant that an enthusiastic drive was much more of an event that the big e46 or precise Porsches. Certain hoon quality to it that I laughed at, in a good way..
I like the styling, but then, show me a Bangle-era M-car that I dislike.. I Think they look particularly gorgeous in roadster guise and the roadster struck me as a better proposition to the 'coop'. Hearing the 54 wail with a roof down really was enjoyable.
It was skittish across rough roads, 1st-2nd changes were sketchy (much less so with the CDV removed) but I just couldn't hate it for it..

The one thing that roadster had was fantastic wind protection with the roof down.
I pretty much drove mine on every drive, at every time of the year ( if not raining), with the roof down. Winter with the heater on was fine and no need to look like Biggles. Easy to "cruise" at 100 with the roof down without too much buffeting. We have a TTS on the drive, absolutely crap with the roof down in comparison.
Loved mine, I liked the less that perfect handling, made you feel alive driving it, but then I also used to have a Cerbera.
I did think it could have actually done with more power, this nonsense about traction control all the time just implies to me people get in every car and just floor the pedal and hope the computers do their jobs, I personally find learning a cars boundaries makes it more interesting and generally fun.
One I wish I never sold, mine had an Eisenmann exhaust and 19" inch light weight alloys and upgraded braces, sounded epic in tunnels and regularly found people taking pictures of it.
