This new RR is completely, totally awesome. If I win the Lottery tomorrow, it's the first thing I'd go out and order (even before the MP4-12C!).

Would love one, but not so keen on the slit eyed head lights, and the rap rounds on the rear lenses too. But its only a small detail on a wonderful car 4x4 SUV Sports saloon.

Seriously? Does anyone at JLR just think we will swallow this frankly b*lls**t?

So lets get this clear, it has a higher Vmax because it has less mass? Probably also explains why JLR products consistently fail to meet the standards set by their german counterparts.
Makes quite a difference at Nardo. Because it's a banked circle, the cornering force is significant - around 1 lateral G. As Newton said, f=ma, so any m taken off results in a lot less f. That means more lateral grip available, which means higher speed if you are going around a corner.

-edit-

(changed oval to circle)

USP: only SUV that does not make you look like a total idiot by default, IMO. LR sort of invented the concept, for decades they produced that thing for a niche market. Now that the nouvelle richesse and assorted poseurs from all over the globe think they need this type of car (independet of transport requirements) LR are cashing in. Good.

I personlly can't see the attraction though. I don't live on a remote farm, I can drive in the snow with a normal car, I don't have to tow things and people I could impress by owning a RR are people I don't want to meet.

Sounds impressive. Should be fantastic in TDV8 form, but looks like a Freelander after a nip and tuck on Harley Street.

Why so fast? Because it is so much lighter...
Really? What exactly does weight have to do with top speed?
Less friction on the road surface because of the reduced weight. Though not sure how far that actually goes.

Sounds like an impressive jump in engineering.

BUT.....

....have they made it easier to service and easier to fix and will it be easier to work on?

If it's more expensive to do all of those things then the engineering improvements are somewhat flawed.

Just flicked back through the pictures again, they appear to have made a return to your common or garden dials over the TFT display the later L322s got. Didn't particularly like that idea, but fit in well with the adventure camera systems. Wonder why it's seemingly been dropped.

It's still TFT, new system.

Those figures make for very good reading but I have one concern, on the interior picture it looks like they are using the current SAT NAV/Entertainment system which if its anything like the Evoque I was in the other week, will be a major let down for a car like this

very very nice, however the taillights remind me of a US spec ford explorer which worries me

A very impressive colour pallet too. You can have the TVR style flip paints too as well. Who said proper colours are dead.

Not my cuppa, however some very interesting engineering solutions.. "Ingesting intake air via the gap between bonnet and wing.." and suspending the battery as a mass damper? Very lateral thinking, but I wonder why the latter was needed, structural resonance?

Mind you, if the FIA had let the R25 run longer than a race or two back in '05 (hockenheim?) perhaps we'd have seen more mass damper technology in mainstream vehicles...

Bloody good effort too if the stats are to be believed.

In a masochistic way, I admire the thought and engineering gone into this RR! smokin

All that hard work into engineering a new model, trying to make it the best yet.

Then they put vents in the door.

Impressive mpg, and weight. Which has kept me away from the previous generation. It looks huge though, specially the rear doors.

Aah, thanks for that, did wonder. How does that work in practice? Are they reliable?
