I saw a very nice looking Allegro today, oh yes it was.

Sign written as "Patrick Motors" didn't see much else, but guess a rally or replica. It was on the A5 near Dunstable/Leighton Buzzard.

Anyone know about these cars, just intrigued.

The vinyl seats in them will burn your legs if you are wearing shorts and its a hot summers day. Also after three years the overheating problems mean you have to stop every 50 miles to top up with more coolant.

Obviously fond memories of my dad allegro estate .... And why only three doors?

Thats all I know.....

Lol, I also remember reading that if you closed both doors simultaneously on the 2 door, the pressure would pop the back window out !

I was sort of hinting at the Psyrick
Motors connection, which I guess has a connection with the Patrick Collection, a rather fine motor museum I seem
To remember.

There's programme called "The Car's The Star" made about 10 years ago, different car each week. Lots of them are on YouTube - all very interesting.

One of them was about the Austin AllAggro.

Hope you find it interesting if you haven't seen it already.

Didn't they pioneer the square steering wheel and had a habit of losing the front wheel?

We used to rally them......

Somewhere i have photo's taken of me in the car @ Motor 100 held at Silverstone back in 1985 (i think).

From memory Graham Ellsmore was the driver - i will have to dig out my old photo's & stuff from when i worked for them back in the 80's.

Any info as to the owner would be appreciated as i know that the boss of Patrick Motors might be interested in buying the car back from its current owner.

Do you have any photo's so that i can verify the registration number?

PM me if you have any details & i will forward them on to the boss.

Thank you.

When I was sixteen my girlfriend's mum had a blue Allegro. She couldn't understand why I preferred to ride my bike rather than risk being seen in it by anyone.

That's the bugger - taken in the workshop at Lifford Lane many many years ago. If was indeed this car spotted then i know someone who would be interested in buying it.

The same car was modelled in the Vanguards collection a few years ago - i bought 6 of the models as you do......

The Allegro in the background is, iirc, a cutaway Allegro (dont ask as i could never understand the need for such a horrible thing) & the grey car in the photo is the Austin Ten based 'Patrick Special' which was the car that started the Collection in the first place.

The car, registered AOA 282, was found as a wreck by a Patrick Motors employee named Maurice Simon. The boss bought the car, had it rebuilt, displayed it & subsequently decided that it would be a good idea to start buying a few cars that he liked.

A few cars became a large collection over a few years.

I dont know though what the other car is. Will make a call later to see if it can be identified.

I didn't note the registration number I'm afraid, and wouldn't know if it was genuine or a replica....I'm sure the Allegro club would have a register of any significant cars such as this ...BTW memory tells me the "square steering wheel" was billed as Quadratic in the sales brochures.

That is the very car, I know the owner (I'm a club member!) and there's only 1 of its kind. He's got plenty of weird and wonderful BL stuff and a Sunbeam Talbot too.

Super model...

It was a "Quartic" steering wheel. Oddly, both Quartic and Quadratic are forms of polynomial equations.

Good to see the the Allegro is still living & being used. Having driven SOC 292M many many times I think i can safely say fhat it is good job that it is a one off!!

I never understood how the thing was going to be anything other than a joke on the rally circuit. It was hence we then went rallying with a Vauxhall Chevette HS2300 which was a little bit more successful.

I havent yet looked for my Motor100 photo's as they hidden away the loft so I will do so shortly.

If the owner decides he wants to sell the car please PM as I know who will be interested in buying the Allegro.
