On the motorway and saw a car with Alloygators, plastic wheel rim protectors and I realised I'd never seen a car with them. Are there other accessories that have fizzled out or not caught on?

You kidding me right, these HAVE caught on, pretty much every Minni/Mirca/500/Fiesta/Corsa I see on the way into work has them, along with some dippy looking blond with a vacant look in her heavily made up eyes.

Guy at work has these on his Astra GTC...........

I can think of loads. Some of which did catch on for a while, but soon died out.

windscreen suction compass
plastic fins on windscreen wipers
spot light covers
beaded seat car covers
steering wheel covers
door edge protectors
Krookloks
super long radio aerials that stretched to the back of the car
mud flaps (suprisingly rare these days)
S class merc rear parking antennae
proper pearlescent white paint
white-walled tyres
wheel spacers
overiders
chrome tail pipes

pretty much everything Halfords has ever sold then!

These are used by pretty much all OEMs now.
It's been a very successful pointless accessory

My neighbour's wife is thinking about getting some of these abominations for her Street Ka! She actually asked me why her husband was taking the piss as she couldn’t see what was wrong with the things... “They’re fun and make the car look cute” were her exact words.

I think (and hope) that I might have talked her out of it - bloody pink fluffy steering wheel cover and cuddly toy dangling from her rear view mirror are bad enough...

Awwww... Disappointed.

When I saw the name 'Door Shox' I thought it might be for electrocuting fat-arsed moms and sprogs that fling their doors into the side of your car.

Great way to stop your fella nipping down the shop in your car though!

...I'm just wondering...

If I got huge pair of hairy balls to hang from the underside of my motor, would it stop the O/H driving it too?!

How do you define never catching on though, as there are (and have been) thousands of those products sold (Unfortunately for most of them)! Just about any lad that's 17 and drives (or drove) a Saxo, Corsa, Nova, Astra or such has had one or more of those things listed!
