Being on the armco on the Mulsanne when this beast went past at 200 will live with me for ever...you could hear it coming from miles away, the air whistling into the intakes was so loud, and the exhaust noise just blew all the other cars into the weeds - even the Corvette C6R. Incredible.

some of you need to get your ears syringed methinks

f355 is a sexy car - quick, loud and looks fab
the noise it makes can be spine tingling too (especially with a Capristo) but the bottom line is a flat plane V8 sounds too much like a 4 pot, a great 4 pot for sure, a loud one too, but lacking something - its too flat a note, more like someone shouting than a great voice singing to you.

now a great sounding car is loud but it can also hold a tune.

The M3 CSL is just as spine tingling as the f355, but has that extra the flat plane v8 is missing. not to mention a fantastic induction note to go with its exhaust.

the Cannonball Countach has a very distinctive noise (and yes it really does sound like that)
Alfa GTV6 with a decent exhaust has often been called the best sounding engine of all time
Miura SV - cant find my fave clip, but the noise is very mechanical and just pleases the ear.
Ford GT40 - shows how even simple american iron can sound when some money and talented engineering is thrown at it.

the one thing these engine notes all have in common is that they are musical - something the f355 simply cannot be accused of, however loud it may be.

.... i like about 3/4 way through there is a young lad to the left of camera, his dad tries to cover his ears and the lad pushes dad away ... he likes the sound too much

& i thought teh might be a warning to volume
