I've stopped buying it too.. My local Tesco stopped having it in, I used to make an effort to go buy it from somewhere else but now I just can't be bothered now it's gone downhill, it was only ever toilet material.

Now i just look at tinterweb to keep up to date..

As previously mentioned, Car is getting better recently after years of being in the doldrums. Won't be subscribing just yet, but won't be ignoring it anymore either

However, I too have the worry that I'm just getting bored of cars produced in the last few years. New F30 M3..pah! Who cares? Whereas I used to (and still frequently do) pore over details of 964 Turbos, RS2s, 348 TBs, etc. Why is that? I genuinely don't know, but the last car I got properly excited about was the CLK Black

Anyone bored of thread's discussing how boring Evo is getting ?? Guys its possible to have a nice positive thread too on something or other. People generally only start thread these days to moan. I'm beginnig to find that a bit boring.

Seems there's quite a few people in agreement; if I can't moan about it to SWMBO where else can I turn? wink

I found it a total joke when they said the new audi A8 was bloody quiet, comfortable, refined etc then gave it it 2.5 stars as it wasn't great to drove or involving. That's like saying a Caterham is a bloody hoot to drive but give it 2.5 stars because it's crap on the motorway.

Found that pathetic.

I think no one would argue that when evo came out everyone loved it and it was a refreshing change from the doldrums automags had fallen into.

Is it crazy to say that one day there could be another new mag with a fresh take on cars- created and written by some youngish team of super enthusiastic guys not too dissimilar to how the guys at evo were in 98'? Change is good sometimes. b

yes, cancelled my subscription last week after about 14 years. It was gritty and fresh back then, now it's all posh watches and handbags. Load of old st.

They need to get back to what petrol heads want, obtainable cars that get the brain whirring at these difficult times. For example - second hand TVR Griffith or Lotus Carlton buying guide. Who gives a stuff about Harry's Countach anyway? It's just as unobtainable now to me as it was when I was a kid.

Cancelled my sub to Evo about 3 years ago as I got bored of reading about yet another 911 variant.

Just started back with Car & quite enjoying it.

I get the Top Gear Subscribers Edition, being a subscriber, obviously. Something about an aubergine inspired McClaren on the latest one. I haven't read it.

I've an evo sub. Enjoyed the 911 bit and the tyre test this month - aint read the rest yet - PS3's going onto the Saab soon but then I would have brought them anyway having had them before hand.

But seriously.. X6 M550d? getting a bit too many 4wd's in there.. SQ5 last issue, buying guide for cayenne's a few months ago..

It's Evo ffs, not 4wd performance monthly.

Maybe I should go back to PPC..

I am quite pissed. This post has taken a fair degree of typing while waiting for curry to be delivered.

And I fking hate X6's. no issue with FFLR but X6? turd on wheels.

edit cos I'm not feeling Bovingdons return either..

I've subscribed for years. These last few issues I've been less and less bothered with it.

It's long been my toilet reading material, but this month I've skipped most of it. I'm starting to find Octane and Classic Cars much more interesting.

I'm half tempted to cancel my subscription but then I keep thinking that it's only £4 a month or so, so is it just worth sticking with it for the occasional redeeming feature...?

Not sure anyone is suggesting they should limit the cars they test to less than £40K. But there's definitely a limit to how many roadtests I can read about million pound supercars.
I read a piece Mr Harris wrote about some 1100hp behemoth Koenigsegg in Evo fairly recently. It read like something he'd written in a spare ten minutes whilst waiting to board his return flight. Seemingly I'm not alone in thinking this as someone else wrote this on a forum :

Hopefully something more objective than Chris Harris' review on EVO last year

High praise indeed !

You're appearing a tad blinkered when it comes to Evo. Whilst there might not be anything better out there currently, that doesn't make it good.
Well I can't deny I'm in a minority here. I subscribe to CAR and look at most of the other contenders regularly and EVO comes closer to what I want to read than any of them. Are they a victim of past glories, perhaps, because it's not easy to keep coming up with fresh perspectives without repeating yourself. They have to move with the industry of course and if monster powered turbo diesels or hybrids are the new black then they have got reflect that. The alternative is to look back and have a look at past masters. That's exactly what the past few issues have been featuring if I'm not mistaken.

It's interesting to see CAR being suggested as a better alternative. I like CAR but its got loads of dry industry stuff and plenty of analysis of the latest Peugeot 3008 MPV.

Alternatives? Autocar, Octane, TOP GEAR. Auto Express !!! Specialist Marque journals like 911 World? Maybe but they're much more limited in scope.

Anyway

I like posh watches wink

The last two issues, and the current issue in particular, have been disappointing. When the new editor (Nick Trott?) took over, I thought the standard went up significantly.

For some reason I find Harry's stuff annoying where I found it interesting before - he seems to be trying to become a Chris Harris (or Tiff, or Clarkson). He's not a great journalist in my opinion, his niche was what a car enthusiast would buy or drive had they made it big as a car mag owner.

When I read it I just feel inferior, when the adverts are for watches that are worth than both my cars put together
