BMW is set to rape yet another brand for all its worth. I want to be proved very wrong but I dont see it with BMW's shameful track record of pillaging.
They cetainly take the or out of countryman.
That's not a concern I have with BMW. OK, so the Countryman is an abomination, but generally speaking they have a hell of a lot more respect for what makes a marque unique compared to VAG.

Take Mini for example:

Mini - unique, bespoke design, made only at Abingdon, British design team, British engineering.

Seat - whatever Spanish character and flair it had systematically gutted out, replaced with platform-engineered VWs and Audis with no real point to their existence other than slightly lower prices.

Then look at Rolls-Royce:

Rolls-Royce - bespoke design, unique engine, no true rivals to the Phantom, made according to age-old tradition by English craftsmen.

Bentley - A CKD kit made of various VW bits given a garnish of Bentley-ness in Crewe, with even the engines shared with vehicles also available with 'prole cart' stamped on the nose.

If they go up against the Lamborghini with a De Tomaso, I have no doubt that it'll be more Italian than the Gallardo is. BMW look after brands. VAG destroy them.

Someone made a concept for one based off a Gallardo that I came across earlier this year.

Yes, although there are other way of concealing lights -opaque panels and 'pop-down' flaps for example. Also, who's to say design can't evolve to accommodate such things?

Don't see a problem with this, always thought the original M1 looked a lot like an updated Pantera:

Would be good to see the name revived with some decent offerings, a reworked 6 Series would make an interesting Longchamps as well.
Cool picture. Two of my favourite all time cars....great proportions.

This makes a lot of sense. As a car enthusiast I can only be excited when I see what BMW did to Rolls - or at least the resources they threw at that make.

If BMW want to build yet another stty profiteering biased car (im not calling it super because it wont even be close) why doesnt BMW f*****g build it instead of ruining DeTomaso to trade substandard cars under the meaningfull (until BMW f**k it up that is) DeThomaso name?
They will ruin the brand in the same way BMW, VWAG and FIAT have ruined every brand theyve aquired and then actively poncified in the name of profits?

DeTomaso is a mans car for real men, BMW's are poncified repmobiles for fags.
IT DOESNT FIT SO DONT RUIN IT TO MAKE IT FIT

BMW couldnt even muster a billionth of the passion the name DeTomaso invokes.
Does it matter if DT doesn't exist any more? if BMW can start doing a modern version of this

then I'm down with it

But they wont build anything true to DeThomaso so why ruin the heritage?
They will definitely build a BMW which is more like this.

BMW's track record is pretty good. Rover didn't work out but in life you have to know when to say f#ck it. Ford inherited a Range Rover which was totally developed from the ground up by BMW, hailed brilliant by all motoring writers. They kept MINI... Not exactly a failure. You may not like either car but their popularity and success is undeniable. Then there is Rolls Royce. All BMW got was the name, for £32 mil. VW go Bentley and the factory for £700+ mil.
BMW built RR a new factory, trained and brought craftsman and have maintained the quality and glow or the original RRs. They are massively successful and exceed sales targets even during these times. The last Maybach was produced last month, total failure for Mercedes.
What have BMW actually done wrong. Would MINI, RR or Land Rover be here now, uk jobs, if it wasn't for them?
So... Over to you.

Never understood why they took over Rover. Yes the Mini, RR and Land Rover all are good and sell well. The difference is these had a current product and image that BMW used. De Tomaso lacks that, but I do see it working in the same way the Audi R8 does to Lamborghini. Both have gained. A new BMW M1 would be a rival to that R8, why not do the same as with the R8 and used the same parts in a new De Tomas.
