Are BMW collecting the cars from the customers then?

"I'm just on my way to you to bring my car in for the recall and my engine has blown up.."
First thing I thought!

US dealers are collecting cars and supplying loaners till the work is done

Yep, my pain was with the M54 lump too.

On the subject of VANOS, my seals were ok but the helical gears became noisy/rattley in the end. And no, not because of cheap oil/no oil/ wrong oil.
My pain that made me part with the car was the tranmission limp home light. BMW wanted to charde me hundreds to replace the ATF fluid. You know the transmission fluid that is sealed for eternity and magically lasts forever?
Ha, ATF for life. Just don't ask them how long a lifetime is wink

Indeed. Saab used to be very strange for this as well - lots of technical bulletins and recalls in the US that never got implemented in Europe.
America, home of the class action lawsuits. In Europe BMW will just trust to luck.

BMW NA are far far better for recalls and warranty notices - the N54 335i is plagued with issues, but not one has been recognised in the UK / Europe.
What makes you say the issues haven't been recognised?

BMWs are (in my ownership experience) rubbish. Rusting, poorly made, very bad aftersales rubbish.
.
Ah, but they look nice and have a fine badge. They are now uber-common numerically in my neck of the woods recently so are now 'pleb' affordable... Oh my ... topical .. hehe Obviously, being superior Germanic build, never have problems.

My son's Lotus Elise S2 with the "They all do that" Rover K-Series is the most reliable car he's ever owned and all his cars have been reliable. The coolant fluid level has not moved for over two years now ~ remarkable in any car! The car is a joy to drive and it's K-Series engine is the best one I've ever experienced and all my experiences of K-Series cars over the past twenty years now has been very good indeed. Not a bad one in any!

My only gripe with BMW was their ownership 'handling' of one of my favourite car companies. Had they handled things differently, I might be a BMW owner now.

I only wrote this as it's the most prominent/talked about one.

Shame really, cause 335 could have been such a brilliant car.
At the time of purchase I was wondering why my 330 was more expensive than quite a few 335i...

Just like the complimentary extended warranty Audi decided to implement on 05- TFSI engines in the U.S and Canada, if the fuel pump follower fails taking the fuel pump, inlet cam and possibly the head with it those nice Audi dealers take care of it FOC. Ask Audi UK customer service if the same applies here and expect nada.

A BMW GB spokesman said the problem does not affect UK cars. ‘We have had no notice of such,’ they said.

Watch this space!
In much the same way there was apparently no issue with the security systems on them either until a week or so ago
The spokesman forgot to add 'yet' to the end of his statement
rofl
Indeed he did!

Not really, just someone with 11 years experience in the Automotive manufacturing industry. I know how it works, I've lived and breathed issues just like these, and hence my original post. I'd also wager that the offending Supplier has a big recharge bill coming...

If they are saying it's a manufacturing defect then it may be the parts are the same but it was only a batch sent to the US that was effected?
It's not unusual to source from a different supplier if you're building all over the world.

Seems that in this case though it was the same supplier.
