RE: Spotted: Honda NSX

If you want to argue that The Best Car in the World is a supercar, go ahead. But there is only one that makes the grade. Only one that's built properly. Gordon Murray knows. Rowan Atkinson knows. It's the Honda NSX.
I hate to quote him but it's one of the few times he's spoke without hyperbole & from the heart. For those who haven't driven one, I can honestly say they are fantastic, fantastic machines. In fact I'd go so far as to say they are up there with the best.
I am in the utterly wonderful position of being able to drive an NSX whenever I want to yet not having to pay for it (thanks Dad!).
Reading the comments and taking a straw poll and manipulating the comments to suit my purposes, the majority would like:
Red : yes
Manual : yes
Pop Up lights : yes!
The interior is bland but I own a mk1 MR2 so am used to Japanese function over form. The 348 is a nice looking car but I bet it breaks down a lot. And would it handle my recent trip over the Alpine passes with a split in the water tank? The NSX did, gently (see my other post last month for full write up).
And the sound of the engine? A Ferrari engine sounds fabulous but an NSX at full chat is also awesome. I adore his car and I hope he never sells it.

Ha, I recognise a lot of the bits in that NSX interior shot from my old Mk4 Vtec Prelude, no doubt a lot of the components had the same part numbers.
A lot of people complaining about the low power output are probably unfamiliar with 90's Japanese sports in general, Skyline GT-Rs, Supra-Turbos were all limited to under 280bhp but it's well documented that they're capable of a lot more.
Also very tired of the old cliched opinion on Japanese car interiors that's derived from British Car Journalists over the last 20-30 years trying to fill column inches when they've run out of things to write about, usually the interior quality in Japanese cars was much better than the nasty masked as quirky stuff France and Italy was churning out at the time. All my old Jap cars had leather stitched steering wheels and padded dashboards as standard. I quite like the interior but maybe I'm just seeing through rose tinted glasses from my youth.

I saw Senna driving a silver NSX at Silverstone in 1991.
It was after Formula 1 testing in June when the majority of teams were present. This was for an Autocar feature.
He took the journalist out and the photographer out separately and did 2 laps of the whole GP circuit from a standing start on the start/finish straight.
The howl of the engine was nice, but even if Senna had been driving a golf buggy it would've been special to see.
I always think of Senna when I think of an NSX. Would the NSX have been such a 'special' car then or now if Senna was not involved in any way? Honda did well out of Senna. Money well spent.
The same F1 testing event also saw Nelson Piquet involved in filming an advert for something or other to do with Ford/Benetton, which saw him driving his F1 car up and down the pit straight many times past the camera, and spin-turning it to do another take.
If anyone has any pictures of either Senna (or maybe Piquet) doing this then would be good to see them.

The 348 gets so much stick and yet the owners love them and I happen to think they look brilliant (especially the original ts/tb with the black lower bumper).
The NSX always looked and sounded great but I never really warmed to them. Back in the Gran Turismo days in the 90's if it was to be Japanese then it was a Skyline or RX-7 FD for me.

Really? I love them. There's a yellow one, all be it a 208, in the classifieds now that looks gorgeous. Looks like PH classifieds is on the blink again as it's lots the photos...

That's the one. My brother has one and aside from the noise of the V8, it's pretty poor. Worst of all, people either deliberatly or through pure ignorance always say 'nice lotus!' whenever he takes it out.http://www.theferraricentre.com/used-cars/search/2...
Worse still, I semi convinced him to buy it.
Don't understand why people slate the NSX if they have never driven one...Tiff Crashed one...he's a poor driver for one and if the back end dosn't slide, it becomes a rubbish car in his opinion???
Facts are, the NSX looks good, sounds amazing, turns heads everywhere and is up there with the best...yes I own a facelift model and i am biased maybe, but i actually have the right to be :-). also i jave driven many supercars and exotics and 0 to 60 times and BHP figures mean nothing, give me an NSX anyday over most.

Absolutely love 'em!
Saw a late model (fixed headlight) like this one: http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use... in blue the other day and it looked fantastic.
I would love one... But 50k seems like a lot of money!

I paid 50k for mine, I got stopped by an owner of an Aston one 77 and he offered 60k, I think the NSX will only appreciate....Saw a late model (fixed headlight) like this one: http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use... in blue the other day and it looked fantastic.

348 Is rubbish at all its just a load of st that motoring press stuff.
If you lift of it will spin, Like any rear wheel drive supercar then....
I believe Chris Harris once described the 348 as one of the best handling cars he'd driven in a EVO mag article too.

Hanry Catchpole in EVO December 2011 talking about the Ferrari 348:
"it’s instantly obvious this car has some of the best steering, possibly the best, that I have ever sat behind."
They really are a seriously under-rated car, and based on 6 months of pretty hard use including several days driving round the Scottish highlands, I dont think its fair to say that they're not (or rather cant be) relaible.
