everyone saying it looks too fussy.....have you read about one of the main aims being high downforce?

i'd be interested to see if you could come up with a design which was less fussy but still generated as much downforce.

if you can, you might want to give McLaren a call and tell them all their engineers are wrong.

I just love how purpooseful/functional it looks...I think the rear of a Veryon looks dull

Beautiful all-round design. The spoiler looks tacky; leave it out fellas.

And yes, the acceleration and top speed DOES matter. We've waited 20 years for this. If this doesn't beat the B.Veyron SS in straight line performance, it's still in 2nd position in my eyes.
Why is top speed such a factor? When will an owner ever be able to achieve speeds of 250mph +? McLaren have made it clear that top speed is not a priority on this car. Its about handling and available performance. It will no doubt handle better than a Veyron and out accelerate a Veyron. It will also be more inspiring behind the wheel than a Veyron. Where the P1 will lose out on is top speed but who really cares

Where are the rear headlights?
What car has rear headlights? Headlights are at the front of a car and tailights are on the rear. Rear headlamps would be illegal as they emit white light.

So McLaren release the P1 to the world but just 12 hours later lose the quickest F1 driver in the world too. McLaren's dilemma now is who to choose to carry out the marketing video duties that reflect the speed, passion and enthusiasm? Suggestions anyone?

The F1 was conceived in 1988, and launched in 1992. Senna left McLaren in 1992, joining Williams for '93.

Do you suppose it made much of a difference to the F1?

I think you will find that Senna joined Williams in 1994

good design can be challenging on the eye, but it often means the car has long term design appeal, often designs that you instantly lovely (like the evoque) become tiresome and old very quickly

it can be very hard to represent such a hardcore design in a 2D picture, but then again some designs are just ugly like the 458

My opinion only. You can never be 100% sure and say "Fact" in situations like this but its fair to say that my opinion is shared with many in the F1 world. He is in an elite group who can extract more from a car than some of the better drivers. Place Fernando in that same group too from the current crop of drivers. When you have the best tools in the trade, you try and hold onto them for as long as you can.

Sorry for the rant, I just had to get it off my chest. A McLaren P1 marketing video in the future based on cutting edge technology and pure speed and having Jenson Button behind the wheel doesn't quite fit the bill, does it?
