Wow guys, this system is far beyond the KERS setup in the Gt3r hybrid. I didnt expect to find a full hybrid system! Anyone else worried about rain water filling the exhaust when parked outside in a rainy day?

If you want a lightweight car that only has a great engine, then race cars are that way -->

This is a road car, and as such the tech has to be relevant to the road user in a real world environment, which the consumption figures amongst other things suggest it will be. Yes it is also a supercar, but it'll also be bloody quick so no complaints there.

When they drove around the circuit in electric mode my interest waned and i thought of turning the video off , then the sport mode came into play and i woke up a and my interest rose massively.

That really sums up electric cars to me .

Awesome article and video, spot on guys, really given me a different outlook on the car and the engineering aspects aside from powertrain which I hadn't previously thought about.

Also didn't think much of the looks before, but my God it looks good on the move. And that flat plane howl...

this kind of technology is what is going to allow us to keep driving fun petrol cars. if companies like porsche can get the technology to actually work well and not just make a few pious tossers feel better about themselves then sooner or later corollas, focus's, 3 series, a4's etc will be running round with 100mpg and we'll stop wasting all that lovely super unleaded on ordinary journeys and muppets dribbling along at 45 and have plenty left for proper cars and proper hooning. and breathe.

It's a fair point. Live and work in town. Use the car on electric to get out of town and then switch over and open up the taps.

Cities get cleaner and quieter, sorted.
That's why I love this car. You can quietly slip out of your drive way and get out of town without drawing too much attention to yourself. But more importantly, you're helping to keep all of the cancer causing pollution out of built up areas.

It's sad that people in this day and age STILL don't understand the point of electric vehicles and STILL think it's some sort of eco-nazi plot.

It's purpose is quite simple; IMPROVE AIR QUALITY IN TOWNS AND CITIES.

Buses, trucks, taxis and every other vehicle will have to change.

I think Evo said once when the concept was launched that it basically is a development of Spyder's engine. Can't say if its true though.

even without the hippy paint job or martini stripes, I'm not sure I'd call this a Q car!

I like it. There's plenty of other stuff out there if you're not into the idea of hybrid cars. Has much more purpose than a Prius.

I think Porsche is going to lead with this technology. That engine sounded fantastic, switching from electric into race mode will become the party trick!

140kg for a V8 engine? That is astonishing.!
I know its a wee bit less advanced than this engine (and is 20 years old) but the TVR AJP V8 weighs in 20kg less!

I am not sure i get the whole, if you want a 1200kg 500bhp lightweight hyper car there is plenty of choice available comments, followed up by, this is a road car, not a track car!

I think there is as little need for a 500+ hp hybrid road car as there is another choice of lightweight hyper car!

I have no doubt this is a technological masterpiece however and perhaps this is the future of motoring. It is very early days for electrickery however and sure in time systems will be refined and improved in numerous ways, weight etc But for now as others have said this is pure fantasy and the current tech will be redundant in no time at all, im my opinion, after all, they still havent mastered kers in F1!

A cracking result of letting engineers imaginations run wild. a silent porsche must be a sight to behold as well. was disappointed with the lack of mr Rohrl in the video but other than that another cracking look at a car i will only be able to ogle at from a distance and never own. need to become more PH and take a managing directorship.

As a package the exciting peaky NA engine is clearly supplimented by the low down torque of an electric motor. This could be applied to far more humble cars shortly. Imagine a hot hatch with a high revving 1 litre engine, helped out with a huge wave of low down electric torque. I think this is great news for future performance cars. As soon as they can develop lightweight batteries there will be nothing left to worry about.

Maybe we should all have a garage out of town housing the beast and then a leccy car for when you're in town?

That way we can have no congestion charges, cleaner cities and a car that does actually only weigh 1200kg's and sport 500bhp.

We just have to pay for 2 garages, 2 sets of road tax, 2 cars upkeep, 2 lots of insurance and hope that the hoon cars don't mind being left parked up for a week at a time untouched.
