About 15 years ago now my next door neighbour put something 6+litres diesel into his mates classic Range Rover. I never went out in it but they called it "No Hills" as you never had to change down to go up a hill on the road.
That'll be the GM "Detroit diesel" 6.2/6.2 TDV8, as found in Humvees and Yank motorhomes. A legendarily torquey engine with an equally legendary appetite for destroying gearboxes due to the somewhat unsophisticated power delivery (it's a rather old and crude design).

A friend of mine used to know someone who ran one, he once said to me:

A mate of mine used to run one of those infamous GMC V8 diesels in a Range Rover Classic and two things were very noticable.

Firstly the front spring rate needed to be upped to WHAT!?! to cope with the weight of the block and it spat 4 ZF4speed auto's in 18 months! It did tow very very well though as you can image

That is basically a modern slant on the V8 Interceptor in Mad Max 2. And I want it! That thing looks nuts.

I quite like the idea of the Holden HSV from Roadkill 727ci and about 1200bhp. I'll have mine with a manual box biggrin

The Detroit diesel was a 2-stroke used in commercial vehicles, Shirley?

Some rednecks have shoehorned the 4- and 6-cylinder versions into American pick-ups, but I'm pretty sure the V8 version wouldn't fit!!

Twin super charged 2 stroke 852ci v12 diesel http://www.randygrubb.com/pissd-off-pete/

Apparently in its original installation it had two turbochargers to feed the superchargers.

Erm, isn't that just 4 chargers rather than 4 engines?

Yes.

Z Cars mini conversions are mental - I'd love one some day but think it would end very badly, such a short wheel base and all that power wouldn't translate well onto the Aberdeenshire country roads. I have about five other car itches to scratch first, too, frown

2 engines sitting side by side with 2 chargers each. Not really a fan tbh. Just doesn't look right.
