Not a lot thanks; a Caterham Seven with cupholders and power anything would be a travesty.

Vent windows. I have no idea why they vanished. A perfect way of keeping cool or awake.

Aux inputs on the stereo- my iPod has a perfectly good means of controlling itself without needing to be controlled from the car, and if you don't have a big screen in the middle of the dash it's a nightmare- friend's Kia cee'd, I'm looking at you. I like AC/DC as much as the next man, but there are plenty of bands not beginning with A that I'd like to listen to if only I could get to them...

Most of these automated things, lights, wipers etc are pandering to the feeble, lazy, and disinterested. These are the people we DO NOT want on our roads. As PHers we should be against these things. I think the climate control in my car is witchcraft enough.

One thing I would like to see is a focus on active, not passive safety. Slimmer pillars, a larger glass house etc. Passive safety encourages people to become, well, passive to the drive. Got BLIS? Oh I don't need to do a life saver. Got ABS? Oh I can barrel in as fast as I like, but it's ok because I've got ABS.

I would also like manual transmission to be standard on pretty much everything bar luxo barges, where it should be an option!
Oh for goodness sake behave yourself.

Well we should be, we are the people who are drivers, not steering wheel attendants. Well, except perhaps the people who signed up just for the politics and watches.

So this topic is full of people feeling elite because they drive old cars with no equipment.

Who saw that coming?

Think I'll just stick to using the very things you were on about. Cruise control too while we're at it.

Well I wouldn't mind electric windows and central locking in the Triumph...

You carry on. I will continue hustling my old-really-should-not-be-hustled-car and turning the lights on when I want to.

Actually that's a good idea. I'd quite like a relatively basic car, but with a large engine, manual transmission and RWD.

In the 90s, didn't two racing drivers for BMW get tasked with designing their ideal M5? One went for a relatively stripped out version, whereas the other went for all the toys.

ETA: They were the E34 M5 Cecotto Edition, which was the luxurious one, and the Winkelhock Edition, which was stripped out.

in-built accident recorders, which will record what happened before an accident. video from front and rear cameras, speed and position data (with gps verified time code), and other miscellaneous data such as whether a passenger is/was wearing a seatbelt etc, all recorded onto a universal flash module (cf card, as can be waterproofed for when car goes into the drink), which would be easily acessible for insurance and police use. would cut insurance fraud and hit and runs significantly!

I want nannying nonsense like automatic lights & wipers and parking sensors made illegal.

If you don't know when to turn your lights on or clear your fking windscreen and you can't conduct a simple slow-speed parking manoeuvre, maybe you shouldn't be driving.

This trend for an electronic veil of safety is just making idiots think they can do as they please, the car will sort it out for them. fk it, ABS and traction control while we're at it. And automatic brakes. Yes, definitely automatic brakes.
I like every single one of those things. It's called convenience. Why buy a dog and bark yourself?

Yes, there are times when I want to drive, but 90% of the time I'm either commuting or driving the family around. Why do you feel that the only valid option is the balls out, fully committed, screw everything, uncomfortable (most of the time) go-kart option?

F**k that. Life's too short.
Sorry, I've read my post several times, I've had my wife read it out loud to me, I can't find the bit where I said I felt the only valid option was "the balls out, fully committed, screw everything, uncomfortable (most of the time) go-kart option".

If you could explain to me how having to turn on headlights yourself, activate the wipers yourself or perform a parking manoeuvre without the car beeping at you makes you a fully committed, balls out, screw everything and uncomfortable kind of driver, I'd be interested to hear that. I eagerly await your response.

Full size spare wheel, a return to days gone by maybe but who can argue? .... Some things should remain unchanged, foam kits are crap.

Good comment, but would anyone these-days know how to change a wheel without phoning a service-company or insurance-company?
