Not sure if your aware of this but the Rover lump was designed by Buick...an American company, and yes its not the best performance per CC, but sounds lovely.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit I know but thought I would return the favour wink
Yes I'm quite aware of the Buick 215 thanks. V6's can sound good too BTW. And a stock RV8 on stock exhausts really doesn't sound much at all tbh.

Also this is a 4x4, low rpm torque is arguably far more useful than high revving low displacement engines making the same power.
Yawn. My point made and COMPLETELY missed.

Reading your other posts your quite an emotional guy on this subject. I love yank cars and i am sure many on here know/see their merits (warts and all). Not EVERYONE has to love this POS chevy, so i am asking (NOT TELLING) you to just chill, think "burk" and not to slag everyone else off on here that happens to have a different opinion to yours.

No offence intended by the way byebye

If the measure of a good SOTW is the number of comments generated (on the day of publication) then I suspect this is a winner!

And it would be the GTV for me, if I was looking to spend a few bob on another motor!

I really like that, just a shame that it only has a V6.

A V8 one, yes please!

NO, just no. Far too 3.141 locksmith for my liking.

Also, how many gallons to the mile does she do?

I agree with a previous poster; good for ram raiding and not much else.

I'll stick to my 96 Toyo 3rd Gen Surf. It's way cooler than this and does 27mpg (3.0 Diesel) on a run.
I don't see the allure, even for under a 'bag o sand', and it's fugly as sin.

There's no way it does 20mpg, and it must easy weigh a couple of tons.

Perhaps if it was diesel it might have some merit as purely a workhorse for towing and shifting stuff about without worrying about it getting dented, and be worth a punt if everything else was guaranteed in working order but it's no looker to be seen in. Where's the cool??

Roll on next SOTW!!
Yup the US forums seem to reckon on a UK average of 20+MPG, & it is another 150-200kg heavier than your Surf according to Wiki!

I love shed of the week normally, but to be honest, if I was looking for a £1000 6 cylinder Yank 4x4 I can't see any reason not to buy a 4l Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee.
Failing that, what are Hilux Surfs going for nowadays?

I fking HATE SotW... I'm now giving some serious thought into how I can convince SWMBO that a winter/spring stter is a great idea, and I'm really liking the Blazer

This SOTW is so much more interesting then some German auto diesel nonsense.

Not for me though.

A petrol 2.7 Surf does around 23-25mpg on a run, and they weigh around 1800-1850Kg.

An extra 1.6ltr displacemenmt and 150Kg in oldskool technology is going to cost you more than 3-5mpg.

It's not like some of the yank V8's in something like a Cadillac or Lincoln that shut upto 4cyl off for economy on a steady run, you're getting all 6cyl all the time so IMHO 20mpg even on a run, sounds properly over optimistic.

I don't believe it, and i reckon in average UK motorway or town traffic you'll be lucky to see mid to high teens. I dread to think what the MPG will be when you're towing something.

I hope it's got a mahoosive fuel tank!!

I quite like it... (probably prefer the Alfa too, as I really don't need a 4x4 for anything).. and definately a nice leftfield alternative to the questionable Land/Range Rovers of similar money.. ...

I'm going to unlurk and weigh in in favour of this weeks SOTW, mainly bacause I bought one a couple of months ago! It's big and comfy and wallowy and has some nice toys, heated seats, electric folding mirrors etc, and you can get 20mpg from it, although I do seem to be listening to more country and western lately. Granted I did have to complete the journey home from picking it up on the back of a low loader due to a knackered alternator, but it was a cheap and easy fix. It should be noted that my local Chevrolet dealer say that they can't get parts for it, but I've got a Corvette specialist near me and they get regular parts deliveries from the States, and I get to check out all their cool cars while I'm there. I can see that it won't be to everyone's taste, but I'm enjoying it, possibly partly because I had a radio control one as a kid.
