Aston have at least picked a nice design to repeat ad infinitum - Porsche picked a pig-ugly one to my eye.
Not even a pig ugly Porsche one either, a pig ugly VW design!I'm so in the wrong universe.
The one I'm meant to be in has no speed limits, Lamborghinis are free and 911s are seldom seen and considered endearingly eccentric but ultimately laughable, a bit like 2CVs.

Maybe His Royal Highness Danny Bahar should go and work at Aston Martin next because it can't get much worse...?! ;-)
No, Saint Dany of Bahaha is hard at work launching Lotus-Bahaha Cars (Dany Bahaha Is Great) Ltd. He wrote to us through Sniffpetrol, it must be true.g3org3y said:
Far too fussy at the front. The splitter looks like such an afterthought. Very inelegant.
Yes, it's no original Vanquish in the looks department, but it's way cleaner than the DBS with its strange lumps on the front bumper and extended sills which surely look a lot more aftermarket than the new Vanquish. I have seen the new Vanquish and the looks are not the problem; the power output way below that of the 599 let alone the F12 is more of a concern. People do use all the power on the road occasionally, and the rest of the time it's nice to know it's there. I am a big fun of some cars which are not the most powerful, for example my integrale , and the Clio Williams I once had. Buying a supercar-GT brand new you might want to know you are buying the best. I fear the new Vanquish is not as good as the 599, and that the F12 is a dramatically better car. For the proper Aston experience, a late original Vanquish S might be the best bet, but that doesn't help Aston sell new cars.Edited by myhandle on Monday 15th October 20:46

Indeed, absolutly shocking. I thought exactly the same while sat one at Gaydon last Monday. Wow, I could never be seen in such a minger I thought while discussing the current model line-up. The Pits said:
Drives me mad the hypocrisy and double standards of the motoring press when it comes to Aston Martin.
Porsche churn out the same old recipe and styling since the '60's and they can do no wrong. Suddenly the new 991 is 'mostly' aluminium and is pronounced the second coming of the messiah. By 'mostly aluminium' you can read, not yet up to where Aston Martin were ten years ago. Or the Lotus Elise from 16 years ago.
Not even the pig ugly Panamerde or deeply cynical Cayenne receive much in the way of criticism to my continued astonishment.
Errm where have you been hiding? I take it you've never been on a Porsche thread? The 911 must be the most derided car of all time for the Porsche designers lack of imagination, the Panemera and especially Cayenne where ripped to pieces when they were first released so I don't think there is any bias to be honest. The Porsche only gets a pass as they are very good to drive but either way both Porsche and Aston have been called out many times for the distinct lack of imagination in their designs, at least Aston have the excuse that they don't really have the money to design a totally new car. The 996 shares almost nothing with the 993, and the 991 shares almost nothing with the 997 (heavily re-engineered 996). If Porsche had wanted to make the 996 look nothing like the 993, and the 991 look nothing like the 997, they could have done it. One of the design constraints of the 911 is that people like it looking it that way. Three people I know have black 911s, a 1988 Carrera 3.2 , a 997 Carrera 4S and a 991. Of course there is a family resemblance, but they are all really different. It's ok that not everyone likes the 911, but it's a line that has plenty of fans. The 928 was meant to be the replacement for the air-cooled 911, but buyers kept buying the 911, so Porsche kept making it. Having a choice in the car market is great. I would not particularly want, say, a GT3, but I like seeing them around and about a lot more than the bland diesel dross that owners justify on the basis of economy or emissions or other non-enthusiast metrics.jbforce10 said:

Possibly, but I imagine either is technically correct in this case Dan

I'm a 911 fan, I was just commenting on the fact that it's another car that people often deride for looking the same. Indeed, the 911 is an evolutionary car. When it evolves, the exterior appears immediately recognizable, but underneath are endless improvements with structure, engines, suspensions, brakes, and, usually, all new interiors. That was the case from the DB7 to the DB9. That's why everybody was so happy about it. But it's going to be 9 years for the DB9 now, and it should be replaced by a true evolution. Frankly, the One-77 in larger production numbers, with even more development, at a DB9 market segment price would have been the right move. So it could compete, and maybe beat the F12 Ferrari when in high performance DBS (or Vanquish) form. But, of course, the unsaid thing is that Aston's direction is largely controlled by its very conservative owners and creditors. They're the kind who want cars like the One-77 to be exclusive to their own little club of friends.

I should love AM's, but dashboard gimmickry like 'Power, Beauty, Soul', and calling a key an 'Emotional Control Unit' makes me think they're aiming at Footballers instead of the likes of me.
Same here. Lovely looking cars but lacking in so many other areas, better than a beetle though...Pr1964, I think you need to go and collect your guide dog because clearly you need it. Modern Ferraris (post the 355) look nothing like as beautiful as they should. Even the F12 shares a similar front end to the Virage with it's well-defined, low-slung splitter. Compare photos of the two:
The ff looks like a bread van and the 458 looks like it's been squashed.
Granted Aston does not have VW corporate backing or access to the Fiat parts bin. They've done well in producing a lineup of cars that are still beautiful and elegant and conform to pedestrian legislation.

Astons ALL look the bloody SAME !!!!!
Oh fk off with that.... every fking thread about an Aston some cock says that. What exactly is wrong with Aston's design? They're stunning! Why the hell would they risk alienating all of their current customers by creating a radical new design that might not succeed? Plus, look at any car manufacturer and you can say the same thing. Porsche - they all look the same, the only difference is, they make slightly different models of cars whereas Aston make 2 door, front engined, sports GTs. They're obviously going to look similar when they're similar style cars All Audis have a look of each other - it's a company styling theme, it's not unique to Aston.

They haven't said 'Power, Beauty, Soul' for a few years. They say 'Pure Aston Martin' now.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
