I replaced the engine in my MX-5 and got the snotty letter back from the DVLA demanding an engineer's report. I didn't use an engineer to do it and it has since passed it's mot. It's little surprise people aren't bothering, most conversions are done by enthusiasts who put great care into their cars and are cared for much better than most of the chavvy sheds on the road in my local area.
I have had this too... I removed the LPG from my car, so informed DVLA and 2 months later received the same letter, oh well their loss...

Reg check shows it as 1988cc so I guess that's what's on the V5C

How do you know?

What am I missing?
If you do a reg check on it, it comes up as Engine Size 1988cc.

I usually go straight to the DVLA...

https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dv...

...for V5C information and for MOT history information...

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

...to confirm mileage and so on.

Agreed. I normally use the MyCarCheck app on my phone if its just in passing interest, and if its a car i'm interested in buying then the DVLA sites. I'm in NI so the MOT history isnt online so i dont have reason to use it much unless the car has come from the mainland.

Sterling effort and we all like a Q car but still a 1.8 Zetec on the log book so no (s)IVA and the MOT is a waste of paper.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163809989135

320 alleged bhp and Toyo T1R's should be entertaining for a hundred feet.

That's pretty cool, but the exhaust looks like I made it and I have no mechanical skills.

That would always be my concern with this type of car, you don't really know the quality of the work unless it was done by a reputable garage.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Abarth-500-595-Competiz...

Advertised as a 595 Comp - actually a Fiat 500 Lounge 1.3 diesel with an unspecified conversion history in 2018.

Seller says it's up to the next owner to declare / change, but then suggests you don't as you can get £20 road tax & cheaper insurance by keeping quiet rolleyes

Vauxhall Adam

1.6T VXR conversion upgraded to 240BHP, still a 1.2 on the V5C.

Loving the way it says "all the lights on the dash go out as they should" - as opposed to "all the checking and safety systems working correctly". But at least the lights go out wink

Oh and Cat D...

I wonder if this is a stolen 595 that has the ID of the 1.3 diesel put on it, surely it would be cost prohibitive to do all those upgrades.....
