Amazing how much that has come down, but I'm in the Arnage camp too.

might be same price, add difference in insurance £4k? service cost over 2 years £5k tyres £1400 ,unexpected repairs £2-6k then fuel over 2 years £7-£10k, cars might cost same but you would need to spend around £20k in running costs over 2 years, that is of course why the Bentley is cheap,a lot of expensive cars like these are leased when new then got sold on to a limited amount of buyers,at a push i could afford the Bentley but would skint myself driving it

With respect, that's balls.Insurance? About £1000 all in for a 30+ year old, possible to insure for a lot less.
£5000 servicing over 2 years?
£5000 a year in fuel? I spent £950 on 6000 miles a year in a 740i BMW which isn't far off on economy.
Unless you're on for 25k miles a year + with the majority in town, driven like it was stolen by a nutter on 11 points your a bit off on your numbers
Problem with all these big car bargains is they might well have shed 75% of their value, but they are still loosing money fast!
When will Continentals or Flying Spurs or Arnages stop depreiciating? I reckon never.
Arnages are stately lovely old girls, but the Flying spur is a much newer thing.
I might be more tempted by this for a bargain option....

I can't agree. An old Shadow will still rake in £5-6000 and these modern cars will last longer and will be far more reliable and will always have more cachet than an old Merc or BMW. These are going to be snapped up as wedding cars by the truckload diminishing the overall pool. When will Continentals or Flying Spurs or Arnages stop depreiciating? I reckon never.

£950 in 6k miles in a 740i.....no you didn't.Insurance? About £1000 all in for a 30+ year old, possible to insure for a lot less.

at todays prices that's 152.5 gallons of fuel. 6000 miles divided by 152.5 gallons gives you almost 40mpg. most people do around 12k per year and an A4 diesel might average just over 40mpg (call it 40mpg as diesel is more expensive.....just).
so, 12k miles at 40mpg in diesel is £1850. 12k miles at 17mpg (in reality it'd probably be about this or lower) in the flying spur is about £4400 so it's an extra £2500 per year in fuel based on average mileage alone. a service will be between £2-3000 if it's similar to my mates old DB9 and an A4 service from a dealer will be, on average what....£600 tops? so that's another £1500-2000 per year we're already at around £4000-4500 per year more.
consumables....tyres will be an extra £500 per set or more and won't last as long, brakes cost far more, then when things go wrong it'll cost far more.
you're talking at least £6-7k per year more to run it just by quick sums.

It's tha same as the "Continental GT on a budget" thread.
WOW....if you get a good one and ruinous if you get a dog.
My old business partner had a 05 CGT and they are apparently prone to several faults. In warranty, not so much a problem. Out of warranty, the water that often finds its way under the bonnet and into the fuse box costs you £6k to fix. Front pads and discs + labour = £2k.
Cracking car if you're lucky.....

The price of secondhand barges like this with big petrol engines does make them very tempting. A garage near me has a 56 plate Audi S6 V10 up for £16,495. I drive past it every day on the way to work and the temptation to just pull in a put a deposit down is quite strong.
Then I come over all sensible and think about the potentially ruinous running costs.
