Yea, and MOT issues, seems alot of hassle. I guess my car would of had HID's if they were meant for them! Need to get ordering some new bulbs today, just don't want to waste my money on getting some with a crap light throw.
Did a motorway journey the other evening and it was awful not being able to see fully ahead. Will not be going on another motorway until I have new bulbs that for sure.
ive had 2 cars pass MOT with no HID without headlight washers etc, they dont test the auto leveling anyway Did a motorway journey the other evening and it was awful not being able to see fully ahead. Will not be going on another motorway until I have new bulbs that for sure.

Oh I see, the MOT is one of the reasons why I steered clear.Fitted my new Phillips bulbs yesterday, they don't seem to be lining up right no matter what I do :/ will be having a play around with them later to get them right hopefully.

Yea, I had some MTEC Cosmos Blue 100w but with horror stories of like you say melting wires and damage to the headlights, I changed them over.
My 100W came with a 6" bit of wiring that goes between the bulb and the loom, I assume incase of this problem. Been fine for 2+ years now.R7YN said:

Really? What bulbs have you got mate?Had to just get some other 100W bulbs, luckily the first set I got came with these wires in them.
Just like these;

the throw of light doesn't reach that far with the beam ending even on the zero light level setting only a few metres ahead.
With this in mind I'm wondering if there are any similar looking bulbsSuggestions so far have been Phillips X-tremeVision, Osram Nightbrakers etc. Any advice welcome

Changing the bulb might make the lit area brighter but won't extend the headlight's range.

Hiya folks,
I've had the MTEC Cosmos Blue (55w) bulbs in for a while now fitted to my 2009 Focus. They look good with a nice white output but it's commonly known that the throw of light doesn't reach that far with the beam ending even on the zero light level setting only a few metres ahead. Did a motorway trip this evening and it was terrible!
Adjust your headlights so they sit how they should on the 1 setting. Usually a distance from garage door and then a height from ground should be available for you to adjust the lights from under the bonnet.I've had the MTEC Cosmos Blue (55w) bulbs in for a while now fitted to my 2009 Focus. Osram Nightbreakers are good. I have them on mine and they are a nice bright output.
By strange coincidence ordered a pair of these from Amazon for my Focus last night. £12.99 for the pair. Hopefully be here tomorrow. Will report back once fitted. Used the Philips blues before found them very good but didn't last long and both failed exactly the same day, a bit scary as no low beam at all.R7YN said:

I don't think 100W headlight bulbs are legal in the UK for road use.
Correct mate.Watching with interest, though - please let us know how the Blue Vision Ultras turn out!

In my experience, if you have poor headlights with standard bulbs you will have poor headlights with uprated bulbs.
Consider this, cars do not have any of these fancy bulbs from the factory, and the standard bulbs used by OE's are probably largely the same. Most of the performance from a headlight comes from the reflector, not the bulb.
The headlights on my previous S40 T5 had HID's and were truely superb. My current Mondeo, even in Titanium X spec, does not have HID's, but the lights have ~95% of the performance of the Volvo, without the horrifically expensive bulbs and ballasts.
