RE: Chris Harris video: McLaren 12C Spider
Discussion
Perhaps lacking a little of the polish of your previous videos Chris but still essential viewing. Unfortunately not essential for my 9 year old son (who normally loves to watch all your features).... WHY did you have to use the F word. Grrrrr.
Pistonheads, please can you beep this out next time. I don't mind so much but not too keen on my little ones hearing it.

With over 1500 12C's sold already in just over a year any arguments about whether the 12C is a desirable car or not are now I think mute. And with the introduction of the spyder that number will just get better and better. McLaren I think have played this almost perfectly. They have produced a genuine alternative to the 458 for those who just don’t want the baggage that comes with Ferrari ownership.

Really enjoyed the vid.
Can't believe that with McLaren's famed attention to detail, they have renamed the car the "12C", but forgotten to let the car itself now - first interior shot shows the clocks that on power on show "MP4-12C"...
Other than that, I WANT one.
Chris, your own attention to detail is incredible. Can't believe that with McLaren's famed attention to detail, they have renamed the car the "12C", but forgotten to let the car itself now - first interior shot shows the clocks that on power on show "MP4-12C"...
Other than that, I WANT one.
I drive one every day and have never even noticed that it announces itself as a MP4-12C when you switch it on.

And MP4 was always McLaren Project4 from the early eighties F1 cars.

So Jenson and Lewis aren’t driving an MP4-27 in 2012?
And none of their predecessors ever drove MP4-26 or MP4-25, etc. etc ad infinitem – well back to 1.
Obviously I am still in the 80’s and stand corrected, as a 2012 MP4-12C owner and driver, to your superior knowledge.

To be fair, Chris called it "my home video" at the start. It was never going to be as polished as the usual films. Controlling audio levels whilst shooting, narrating and driving is impossible. Even more so in a convertible. The standard of each vid has improved with every week which has emphasised the understandable drop in technical quality of this one.

I take it he's never driven a TVR then?Mr Harris, I take large umbridge at your statement that convertibles are for sissies, so much so in fact, that I offer you the opportunity to take a ride in my 'sissy' car. If your man enough that is.......
Well, the 12C is clearly a brilliantly engineered and more versatile driver. Sadly it's neither visually nor aurally as spectacular as the 458 (although the nose/hood/headlights of the 458 still look like a space-alien-mobile). I suspect I'd prefer driving the 458, but owning the 12C. Many on this thread care about the image of one car versus the other. I could care less about that. People will think whatever they want to think. But I shudder at the thought of one day joining the Ferrari lifestyle. The buying process, service visits, other owners, Ferrari get-togethers and pose-a-thons. I run in to a lot of Ferrari owners and few are the ones with whom I'd want to spend time.
So that makes the 12C the winner here.
And Chris normally does an outstanding job. Thus this was a bit unusual. Not at his best. Maybe it was that weird hat he was wearing...

that's a disgraceful view. Ferrari merchandise can be very useful as it is a pretty good indicator of who to swerve. Like a fit girl having gonorrhoea stamped on her forehead.

These are the things that are stopping me from buying a 360. I need one in my life, but would probably even think of myself as a knob. It was a boyhood dream to own a Ferrari, how sad its come to this
i think it's sad people give a toss about what other people think and that stops them buying what they'd love to own, to be honest.no-one is forcing you into buying their clothing etc.

If you drive an S2000 you could get someone in a yaris thinking "look at that knob/what's the point in a car like that".
If I could afford a 458, I'd have one in a heart beat. A pal of mine has just bought a 430 spider and the noise ALONE is worth putting up with snide comments. It really is phenomenal.
