As much as I love the red VW, with its ridiculous price and many, many windows it is not worth £120k. I bought an IDENTICAL version a few months back for £90! Yes, £90...

Its made out of Lego though

And here's mine.....it's a 1970 westy, I've had it for 2 years and it's the single most amazing thing I've ever owned! Having a reverse mid life crisis, I sold my bike and took the plunge. So far we've been as a family to all 4 corners of the UK covering 10,000 miles, met some great people while drinking beer in a field, become part of a club full of people who genuinely just want to help you out, containing people who work on the vans for the love of it and not to make huge proffits, ( graham at Midland Early Bay, and Dave at Deaddubs to mention 2). I've found out that when I was younger and had to get the socket set due to necessity, I actually enjoy it now, and it's nice to know that the engine comes out in less time than it takes to get the plastic cowling of the Scirocco. It's broken down 4 times, but only once I couldn't fix it by the roadside, and If I were to ever sell it I'd get my money back and more.

Yes it's st to drive compared to a modern car, but the attraction of taking it slowly and enjoying the journey more than makes up for it, and the feeling if calm when I'm in it is hard to explain, as the nice feeling when people come over to talk to you about it, or ask if they can take a photo. Finally the kids think its the coolest thing in the world, and so do here mates when they get a lift to school........

As to it not being a "pistonheads" car, I thought the idea was to have something with character, that made you feel passionate about engines and secretly made you look at the refection in the plate glass window your driving past.....

£120k?! fk that!

I totally respect the appeal these have.

But come on, they're just tired old sheds which break down alot! It's just a van!

I do admire when you see an convoy of them going to the shows at Santa Pod, but I would never spend serious money on one.

Surprising how much money they command, and how people are willing to pay that.

Here's my 79' Bay - currently undergoing some major reconstructive surgery!

I've got a Subaru 2.0 motor to go in it, hopefully we'll get out in it next year.

When I passed my test in 1992 I bought a '73 Microbus with 6 months MOT for £450. Should have kept it, bah.
