RE: Time For Tea? Respect Your Elders

I had a restored beige round rear lamp manual 2002 in Germany in 1992/1993. Bog standard 100bhp with steel wheels and hubcaps. I loved it and it held its own on the Autobahn, as well as being fun on the country roads. Much more cultured and interesting than the ubiquitous Mk 1/2 Escort. I also tried a road-registered but race-prepared Tii when I came back to Blighty, but it had had one too many "offs" in its life to be trusted as a road car.
I think the wheel-arch extensions on a road car should be reserved for the Turbo though.

Beautiful car with some significant sentimental value for me. I learned to drive a stick shift on a 1973 2002 tii owned by a friend of mine. Nice guy with a friendly, generous and well-off dad. My friend let me have a good amount of time behind the wheel and I am forever grateful and thankful. Fairly dark metallic blue with black interior. I believe it was a 4-speed manual transmission that had a great feel to it.
Wow, what a way to learn to drive a manual friend. Thanks HD.

My Father had a string of 2002s, in the early '70s.
One that really stands out in my memory was a bright orange 2002tii, BFN 6K. Round rear lights. It was fabulous. I was only 7 or 8 when he had it!
Just checked online and it was last registered on 1/1/84 :-(
It looked just like this:
I still have one of those hubcaps hanging in my garage - 36 yrs on!
