I also didn't think anything of these until I drove one. The power is just relentless. Looks wise I think the 911 is a better but I wouldn't underestimate the V10.

i think the r8 isn't ageing well. Aston and new 911 not much better tbh. do like the Gallardo lp560 and 458 though

Not ageing well? Looks are subjective but I struggle to see how it isn't ageing well.

Struggling to understand some of the comments here...

for the money vs. performance wrapped up in a package that's a usable everyday reliable car, what's not to like?

realistically, where's the competition at that money?

the only thing I did not like about the old R8 was the auto-crap box, now that's gone can't really fault it, yes it's looks might not be your cup of tea, but that's about all you can slag it off about.

That's one fast car, and V10 sounds so good too!

I had a V10 Spyder for 2 years (manual of course) and still have to own any car to this day that could cover ground so quickly in all weathers. Which also made it ever so slightly boring for me.

I must be the only person who hates these cars. Every time I see one its driven by an arrogant tosser (no offence to the nice people who own one, I am sure there are a few) who thinks he is in a Veyron. I often see one that some nob has had wrapped in chrome vinyl...

Does nothing at all for me. Give me a new 911 or an Aston any day.

The styling is starting to grow on me (it's taking its time!) but likewise. I'm sorry, R8 owners, but a significant proportion of your number drive like fools, footballers or reality TV "slebs".

I keep "testing" myself, somehow thinking that I will suddenly see what I`ve been missing, but it`s been a long time now and I don`t think it`s going to happen!

Brilliant ride quality, I wasn`t blown away by the power and there wasn`t much in the way of exhaust note INSIDE the car to satisfy me, which is a shame because they can sound great OUTSIDE the car!

I can't understand why they didn't use the new engine from the RS5 - must be due to development cost tochange but surely ti would help them amortise the dev cost of the new unit, or maybe the volume would be too low to matter. The biggest issue these cars have is fuel consumption and the new unit is way more efficient. People buying new might not care though I guess.

Find it hard to disagree with this statement. Its an ok car for this kind of money... but there are much better cars out there that dont scream "look at me I have a new audi"!!
