both look abit chincey to me, and although the audi looks better, the audi badge has been something to steer clear from for some time now I feel. a combo of those awful LED daytime lights and half of them being sold in white.

I'd walk past them both and buy a Maserati Granturismo, regardless of any performance difference.

Neither. GTR will eat them both at a fraction of the cost. 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. (spare me the 'it's not exotic enough' rhetoric - a GTR has so much swagger and pedigree its oozing it)

£121K on a non turbo 911?

Have a word with yourself!!!

You can get an approved 599GTB for that, and have £10k change.

991 for me too... I'd want to feel I'd moved up from my TTS, the R8 has the same seats, mirrors, SatNav and other bits and pieces.

Yeah but...its a Nissan. Doesn't matter if it does 0-60 in 1 second, its a Nissan. I don't want a Nissan on my drive.

991 2S for me please with some of the trimmings rather than a base R8. The Audi does nothing for me but I love the 991 cloud9

Not particularly interested in either, not that I'm in the position to buy anyway. But as much as I dislike the Audi range, I do turn my head when I see or hear a R8, looks like a proper supercar, 911 just doesn't.

A willy waving tosser lol, you prat. if you saw my earlier post, you'd see that actually I wouldn't have any of those 3 cars - a 911, R8 or a GTR, I'd have a Jaguar or a Maserati, does that make me a willy waving tosser?

Sorry that not wanting a Nissan makes me a tosser, I hadn't realised it was a sin that my aspirations are bigger than that.

Very true. Among car enthusiasts, even if you don't like the GTR, it should still be respected and its performance abilities feared. Sadly, for everyone else, "it's just a Nissan" but then all they'll see is the back end of the GTR as it vanishes off into the middle distance.

Back on topic - I'd take the R8. On the road it looks way better than in photos, and looks far less like a TT then many seem to think. The 911 looks initially like any other 911 - looks are always pure marmite. My problem though is Porsche's design approach - to the uninitiated, the front end of a 911 can easily be mistaken at a quick glance for a Boxster or Cayman. Then an even closer look is necessary to ensure that you're looking at a 911 rather than a Cayman!

As for the comparison, the R8 should be better contrasted with a 911 Turbo surely? Based on previous performance and usability, I imagine the 991 Turbo will blow the doors off pretty much anything when it appears.

Your sin is having aspirations based on brand image and not the car itself. I bet you have not even driven one...or an R8 or 991...

911 all day long

Where is the Turbo though?

Attempt the same thing against the V10 then it might be a fair fight

And the 911 Turbo would be the victor there too

Audi are just too drab for me, even the R8 has lost a certain charm it had

Must be something to do with a guy on my FB buying a perfectly good R8 then making it instantly sh*te by adding rubbish wheels, tinted windows and a stupid paint job...

R8 everytime, closer to 'supercar' credentials not a derivative in an exhaustive model range.

R8 for me - making the 911 4WD completely negates the main point of putting the engine in such a daft place, IMO.

I might take a C2S over either, though and frankly I'd probably take an Evora S over that.

No, we just come from different angles. Clearly to you a car is all about performance. Personally, for me it isnt. I want a car with high performance yes, but how a car looks or makes me feel is much more important. I'd never drive a Lamborghini or a Zonda because I would feel like an idiot, so no, im not all about "brand image". I purchased a Honda S2000 over a BMW Z4 because it was the better car, which ruins your argument. But if youre spending £60k - £120k on a car, then yes, I'd want something abit more special than a Nissan. a GTR would run rings around a Jaguar XKR....but I'd take the XKR every single day of the week. It's like saying "do you want a Tag Heuer or a Casio?" I'm sorry if this upsets you.

So you don't think it's special 'because it's a Nissan'.

So it is totally to do with the brand. As I said - have you even been in or driven one?

Porsche all day everyday. All Audi's leave me cold I'm afraid. A BMW equivalent of an R8 would liven things up a bit however!
