"An affirmative nod rather than a raised eyebrow and the whiff of trying too hard, if you will..."

Around my area (Australia), a new Lambo or Macca doesn't elicit a whiff of trying too hard, it get's full on head turning respect!
Whereas a 911...

(I still brought one though)

Neither. GTR will eat them both at a fraction of the cost. 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. (spare me the 'it's not exotic enough' rhetoric - a GTR has so much swagger and pedigree its oozing it)
...and that fraction being 75/78ths for the C4 and 75/88ths for the C4s.

I really don't understand why poeple think GTRs are cheap to buy, not to mention the running costs. I would agree that the GTR is a bargain in terms of performance per £ but they certainly aren't a cheap car.

Edit - C4S for me. Local drug dealer has an R8.

I'm not getting in to the GTR argument but they're not as common and have a bit more drama about them than either of these cars. A badge snob wouldn't choose the Audi as carparks are full of them

R8 is getting a bit old now is it not? The performance is average at best (for a super car).. and the interior is just typical Audi. When I drove one at a Thruxton super car day, I loved it, but it seemed a bit quiet and maybe too refined? Having said that, it does have drama..its not just a giant TT.

Actually love the new 991, the styling is growing on me, but I would wait until the GT3 or Turbo come out I think...

I do yes, and Selfridges. I have a Bang & Olufsen tv too, does this annoy you also? Sorry that I have nice stuff. I'll put it all in a skip and head down to pound land, maybe I'll see you in there, you can introduce yourself in person.
No it doesn't annoy me, spend your money and keep the economy ticking over.

Whenever I hear aspirational I picture a st Audi but with S-line badges of course.

Do Bang & Olufson even make their own TVs or do they just peel the Sony badge off and double the price?

Both fantastic cars, for looks it has to be the R8, but for all round driving experience I'll take the 911.

I think the R8 looks better, but the fuel consumption and C02 is woeful.

Neither is a clear winner.

I'll take a GTR please confused
So you'd be bothered about tax and MPG with a £90,000 car?

Out of the 2 R8 for me by a country mile. Quite simply V8 vs Flat 6= not even close.

R8 for me, especially the v10 spyder.

911 is a nice car but its just not exciting, i wouldnt just go into my garage to look at it. Nor would i cross a car park to look at someone elses.

Is the R8 a big TT? not to me, the TT is a big Golf or used to be. I see the R8 as a detuned Lamborghini Gallardo, it has supercar looks and just sitting in one feels special.

Im sure they are both a blast to drive though and its cool that we have a choice of two different cars.

Your edit just reminded me.

Was on my way to buy the V10 version when a dodgy looking lad drove past me in an r8 all blinged up with some fancy wrap.

I stopped off at the Maserati dealer instead.

Two fantastic cars and buyer either would not be a mistake.

Preference is for the 991.

Interesting to see the GTR getting a mention, presumably by those who haven't actually driven one on UK roads. Probably the worst riding car I have ever been in, its basically a track car IMO.

I bet you spend your friday and saturday nights playing Gran Turismo.
Not really - I have the real thing...which I bought because I liked it - not because of what my friends would think about the badge.

Anyway, don't want to take up anymore time clogging the thread.

I just think it's a shame when someone is so blinded by a badge (probably through ignorance as the GT-R brand has been around and competing in motorsport for longer than most).

And I would pick the R8 over the 4S.
Children. Tidy up your bedrooms before you go to bed.

Real car enthusiasts tend to judge a car neither based on its badge nor its 0-60 time.

PistonHeads, it's time to stop using pound feet for torque numbers, you're not silly Americans who can't comprehend the metric system, are you? :-)

Edit:

Oh, and I'll take the R8 over a top spec New Beetle any given day.

If I'm spending £90,000 on a car, I want it to be good at everything yes

Yeah but...its a Nissan. Doesn't matter if it does 0-60 in 1 second, its a Nissan. I don't want a Nissan on my drive.
rofl You shop at waitrose don't you?

I think you misread my point somewhat...

FYI Poundland is one word hehe
