Good read and a great car. IMO the prettiest of the breed, particularly so in that colour. It is just oh so tempting and I'm sure I could work the man maths in favour of buying one and owning it for a couple of years. I feel the average annual servicing costs should be a bit higher than suggested, especially given the frequency of expensive cam-belt changes.

Wonderful article!! Makes you think sensibly, pay depreciation, or enjoy a nice Ferrari! Full credit to you Sir! Proper man maths, a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Good read for a Monday morning. My man maths is now fully switched on and figuring out how to afford a DB9.....

A very well written & informative article. Sets a benchmark for further Carpool articles. The F355 is the ONLY modern Fizza I actually like but for me it'd HAVE to be same colours with a tin top.

Great stuff. Many years ago I spotted an immuculate new 355 coupe in this very same dark blue. I approached it from behind as it sat on a Texaco petrol forecourt in City Road, London. It was utterly sublime. It made a huge impression on me. To this day I think it is the prettiest car I have ever seen. Then there is the sound. What a car.

Very nicely written smile

TDF blue like your car is the best colour for the F355 imo, though I dare say the GTB/GTS look nicer from the rear 3/4 view.

A well written and interesting article - thank you for taking the time to write it thumbup Whilst if my numbers came up on Saturday night I would be unlikely to buy a modern Ferrari (I stop short of giving delightful hand gestures at Ferrari owners!) a well maintained 355 really does appeal and I'm glad you use it as was intended.

the 355 doesn't seem very fast at all but it is by far the most fun and flattering / rewarding car to drive out of anything I have ever owned.
I began thinking the same on the speed front, if you're interested though then speak to John at http://www.gtcarslimited.co.uk/

He sorted me out a map, and not just some back street wideboy map, this is from Ferraris own race department, Michelotto. You can keep your normal map for road use, and then when you want that extra something, you can engage the other map along with the suspension button like a race mode!

Mine now gives a strad a run for its money!

I'm compelled to agree with the majority of the comments above - it's a beautifully written piece - so much so it has even made me appreciate a car I don't particularly like! I'd take a 456 over a 355 any day, and it sounds like they're similar money nowadays too.

One day...

...Great Stuff, tin top and black leather for me but the blue is spot on...

...i'm a little concerned though, if people like you are not buying over priced modern stuff, how am i going to pick them up for reasonable cash in 5 years time?

Great write up and a great colour for what is (to me) the last of the beautiful and slightly understated Fezzas.

My default reaction on seeing/hearing one is a smile.

I think the 355 was the last really good looking Ferrari. Great write up.

Excellent article, Man maths spot on. Always good to see these cars being used rather than languishing away under a dust sheet.

nice write up - and perfectly balanced argument for new cars vs toy + day car. Plus to own a Ferrari is an inner child dream anyway.

i'll bet the F355 section in the classifieds is the most looked at section today!
