RE: Driven: new Range Rover
Discussion
Every review I have seen has been incredibly brief so far and feels like a regurgitation of the spec sheet. Understandable when they want you to buy a magazine but that isn't the case. I hope PH aren't paying for a 'review' where only a few lines are dedicated to what it's like to drive.
Technically looks very impressive.
My only issue is the styling. Always felt RR were supposed to be non nonsense form follows functions whereas this seems a little over garnished (for want of a better phrase).

Same engine that's in the XF-S, very impressive it is too. I must admit I do love this new Range, it's those interesting engineering details I really like - the mass damper battery, snorkelly bonnet vents etc. Attention to detail where it really makes very little difference to most owners, but putting that extra 10% into development to make it truly exceptional.MrTappets said:

Is it that impressive?A simple £350 remap for my 3.0 V6 A6 will produce 415ft/lb so an extra 27ft/lb isn't exactly mind blowing, is it?
But in stock tune, that is a pretty reasonable number I'd say.

Yep, and I'm sure you could re-map the LR engine to make a lot more lb/ft too. It won't be particularly stressed (I'd guess) as it will have been built to work despite user neglect, shoddy fuel etc etc...

Probably more a case of my engine being de-tuned surely? But in stock tune, that is a pretty reasonable number I'd say.

Add tasteful private plate and some mud. Perfect.
A tasteful private plate ???......a contradiction in terms if ever I heard one.Rosscow said:

looks like an old freelander... and 71k...hahahhahaha WOW i think thjey just shot themselves in the foot and handed sales to Audi etc etc
The old one started at £70k. They aren't going to be able to make them fast enough. Whatever you think of the looks I can't think of a serious rival (especially not from Audi).
This video by Shmee really gives an indication of how premium this car looks on the road. That bulbous/brutish rear end reminds me of the Phantom. It's safe to say the new Rangey can now credibly sit among both Rolls Royce and Bentley camps as a ultra premium vehicle.
However what is a shame is it seems to have lost some of its subtle utilitarian agricultural charm. Although you could argue that went a long, long time ago.

I saw one of these in White yesterday in the Denham area just off the A40 - looked absolutely yummy! Must say U wasn't a fan when I first saw the pics but this thing looked amazing! Must have been a very high spec car as it just had this very bling expensive look about it.
Are these released yet or could that be a press car?

Audi don't make anything that even comes close to a Range Rover. Having said that they will sell these as fast as they can make them, there really isn't anything else like it.dom
