RE: Focus Cosworth takes a bow
Discussion
yawn, 300 bhp zzzzz a scottish tuner Andy Gallacher of AG motorsport built 2 foci using shells from m/sport 4wd and fitted cosworth engines producing approx 700bhp, andy actually put 1 car through SVA (feck knows how) and had it on the road, apparently he turned the boost right down on the road so it was only producing around 400 brake. totally mental machines. There is still a couple of escort cosworths in the scottish sports and saloons one owned by Stewart Whyte is 650 brake and Bob Drummond's is 500 brake both have a nasty habit of chewing gearboxes and drive trains. saw a shaft yesterday that bob managed to trash splines were totally knackered

Not very nice, they look like Kahns on there too?! http://www.kahndesign.com/wheels/wheels_detail.php...
Not the direction I would expect a fast ford to take!
Was thinking that as well, the white RS in the pictures on that link was up for sale by Kahn earlier this year, IIRC the advert stated that the car was under construction by Cosworth to develop 400 bhp though I'm not sure what became of it Not the direction I would expect a fast ford to take!
It's funny how everyone's banging on about supporting British engineering (quite rightly) but then keep quiet when it comes to Kahn.

I believe the 'Duratec' in the ST170 was actually a Zetec 2.0 with a vvt modified head on it and the true Duratec's are re-badged Mazda MZR engines.
I was thinking something similar, plus was it an 'impressive tuning'?Nothing against the ST170, the rest of the package was fairly interesting.

Cosworth's last big job for Ford on its performance road cars in this segment was the 170hp engine for the Focus ST170. That was an impressive tuning of the Duratec two-litre of the sort that Cosworth still does for customer cars.
I'm still not convinced on the looks of the new ST, I guess I'd have to see one in the metal.

It's on its way - the 2014 'World' Mustang will be sold in the UK with RHD and a range including some more Euro-friendly Ecoboost engines. It'll still be RWD though, like a modern Capri with a V8 option.
Any word on the drivetrain? IMO this NEEDS to be 4WD!
We aren't getting the V8 Mustang over here - 4 pot turbo and a V6.Any word on the drivetrain? IMO this NEEDS to be 4WD!

These ST/RS Focus variants need to be rebodied under a smaller lighter 2 door coupe bodyshell to give it some desirable looks to go with all the rest they have developed. Ford should add a sports/GT car to the range.
^ this. when oh when will car manufacturers realise that there is a demographic that loves a nice coupe, the real kind, with two doors! Really this can't be compared to the Escort Cosworth, it is more of a modern take on the classic RS turbo .
Yes Cosworth have had a (very) small hand in it, but of ford made the effort to build a proper 4x4 version in a 3 door shell, with a good tunable engine then if would be a worthy comparison!
The death of WRC means we will never see cars like the Escort Cossie, Delta integrale or similar legends ever again IMHO

Hmm. I think I would find it a little more interesting if Cosworth had more of a hand in the overall design of the car, rather than Ford just bringing them in to do some tuning work.
But that will never happen. The Cosworth of the 80's that spawned so many brilliant Fords is gone. The Ford that had he bravery to make such good cars is gone. Instead, you'll get overweight FWD 5 doors engineered to meet useless EU regulations.
I wish I could get excited about a new Cosworth car but without a time machine to take me back 25 years so I could get excited about the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth or the RS 4x4 I doubt it will happen.

Really? That doesn't make sense to me - OK, so the 4-pot and V6 will sell well as neo-Capris, but there's always been a strong-ish market for V8 Mustangs over here that would surely only be stronger if they were available with RHD. Seems daft to me that Ford wouldn't just make the V8 an option.Twincam16 said:
