It's extremely dangerous, think of the children for god sake!
Brake woman was on the radio a few weeks back and yep, that's what she said

The most dangerous manoeuvre a driver can ever do and should be avoided at all costs ...... Apparently
Oh for the love.

I am temporarily borrowing my parents' 11 year-old 1.0 Polo and managed to overtake 10 cars and 4 lorries in 5 miles on the way home this evening and unusually didnt get any "attitude" from anyone! I'd have wasted 2-3 minutes of my life if I hadn't, and the Polo is so fcensoreding slow you can only overtake when there is miles of clear road in front. Why people are so tentative I've no idea - about 4 people followed me past the last of the lorries after I'd blazed a trail!

No, that's dangerous too. You could slip and fall. Happens all the time - just watch some day time tv, it's full of people that have slipped on wet floors etc

I suggest we should ban all cars, bikes etc and even ban walking. We should all get about be laying on the floor and moving like catapilars. Much safer
This is also dangerous, today I was run over by a fatter man also acting like a catapillar, sitting still and doing nothing, now thats safe
Of course, we must sit still at absolute zero, or else some dangerous atomic motion could arise!

It's not very common, most people do 99% of mileage on dual carriageways and if they get on an A road don't know how to do it.

I go up to Norfolk now and then to see my mum and they don't really do dual carriageways there so it's nice to have the opportunity to overtake, just because you can...hold back, drop a cog, accelerate, pull out, floor it smile
Shirley, it is better, safer and smoother to (mirror) pull out and look (carefully) before dropping a cog and accelerating / flooring it?

I had a car in front of me on the school run this morning holding everyone back, had approx 15 cars distance from him to the next car empty. I overtook, the kids gave the woop, woop! Scream and that's was it, the others just sat behind him at 30 in a 60. I can't understand why folk hang back then complain about traffic

As people become more afraid of big brother watching them, petrol costs coming to break them and just a general overal dislike of driving, the rarity of a fun drive will become more and more.

If there's not loads of distance then by the time you've done that you've missed your chance, particularly if you don't have lots of power.

I am rarely in a rush so dont need to overtake, i normally only do it because i can and following a slow car is boring.

Add to this the fact that i am quite a childish, easily amused wind up bd and the outcome is that when i am flashed for no reason i wait until i am just out of sight and then pull over off of the road. When they pass me i follow and then overtake again.

My record is with an old bloke in a fiesta that i managed to pass numerous times between harlow and brentwood smile

My rule is if I'm commuting and the person infront is 15mph or more under the speed limit, and there's an opportunity, I'll overtake. I'm not overly bothered if it's not on, I'll just leave it

people see it as risky but then see how quick the acceleration is and how soon the manouvre is over. then just look foolish flashing their lights. unless there is no acceleration in which case. bad move smile

I enjoy overtaking. I'm not competitive when driving but if I catch someone who is gong a bit slower than me I really like the added concentration needed to get past. Occasionally (Like yesterday) I'll be on a good road I know well and the opposing lane will seem like its been closed, being able to accelerate out of bends onto long straights picking off more than one car at a time is great and even better when most of the cars you pass are more powerful.

I made an awesome overtake today, thoroughly enjoyable and executed perfectly, especially as it was in a 1.6 Ford Focus!

Shame I overtook a Prius so not exactly difficult wink

I have a tiny willy so need to overtake a 911 that isn't really trying every now and then so I can brag about my supreme level of awesome.

It's certainly not dead in Norfolk, it's a necessity if you ever want to get anywhere. Nearest dual carriageway to where I live is over 25 miles away. And with the, quite frankly amazing, amount of tourists cruising along at 35-40 everywhere everyone seems to overtake everywhere. It's brilliant! I drive from Fakenham to Norwich on the A1067 2 or 3 times a week to see the girlfriend and I don't think I've had a trip down that road in the last month where I've not had to overtake someone. Quite a nice road if you can find it deserted. Unfortunately, between March and October... just full of fkwits doing 40.
