G'day guys,

Just looking for ideas for a cheapish and interesting daily driver. Only criteria is that it has to be fairly interesting and be able to fit a baby and a couple of suitcases in. Reputation for reliability is desirable but not totally essential (have other cars) and would rather stay naturally aspirated if possible. Quite like stuff from the 80's so was thinking something like a Pug 405 Mi16 or something but really open to ideas. Anything upto about £5k price wise would be good.

Really suffering from a lack of imagination today!

Cheers.

A wee MK2 Golf GTI?

more than practical in 5 door form, and lots of fun.

How about the Alfa 156 GTA. Fantastic noise and looks. Even available as an estate for added practicality.

Alfa Romeo 155? Good retro looks, nice fun drive and while they do need more wear and tear work (36k cambelts & go through wishbones every 60-70k or so) and the rear inner arches will need an eye kept on them, they aren't that unreliable. Cheap, too.

(Ok, they look better in red, blue or black admittedly, but this still looks nice to me)

Volvo 850 T5 estate. I absolutely love mine.

Very practical, comfortable and extremely well made. Fantastic engine too.

Big boot (just squeezed two big suitcases in ours), enough room for a baby, wonderful engine (if you like revs), nice and light so quite good fun to drive. They're not perfect but they are pretty good.

Any £5k focus ST is going to be a real shed.

Usual Seat Leon Cupra R option as well as Octavia vRS? RS Megane? Should get a trophy or Cup chassis version for that. Also a Pug 306 gti6? Getting on a bit though.

944. Don't know about the baby, but can handle the suitcases.
